We do have the ASPCA (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), but as far as I know it is a process to have them step in, and is usually for outrageous neglect; clearly not applicable here. The Humane Society would take him in, and there ones scattered about, but in this case, probably would only pts unfortunately. The vet situation is frustrating over here, and it seems the smaller the animal, the higher the price. I would suggest Banfield, they are Petsmart's vet, and lots of stores have them. It's about $40 for the visit, and 10 for the drugs. They aren't exotic, but they have helped my pigs in a pinch before. Good luck, I hope you can get him seen.

We should be as supportive as we can; GuineaPig24 is currently very much between a rock and hard place - and so is her mum. I sincerely hope that they can work out a solution to get Bacon to the vets in time.
My mom said that she might be able to take Bacon to the vet tomorrow after my little brother's soccer practice.

That's good news, please keep us updated with how he gets on. I do understand how difficult this is for you.

I am so sorry that Bacon is poorly, everyone has offered good advice which I entirely agree with. It's good that your mum is thinking of taking him to the vets tomorrow, Bacon's ill health is a priority and should not be ignored. In the UK it is illegal not to seek veterinary treatment, just because you are in the US it doesn't mean you can leave your pet to suffer. GOOD LUCK BACON♥

how is little bacon doing my jerry has the same symptoms he has a uri upper respiratory infection or a really bad cold, and fluid on his lungs he is only a baby of 6 months and he has had this uri twice now, once in the pet shop we had to wait 2 weeks to take him home, now he has it again, he was given septrin antibiotic and a diuretic for the fluid, if bacon is not eating crush up some of his food in a bowl of warm water, once it is a paste and cool enough try and syringe feed him it could be a life saver, can you let us know how he is, good luck I'm sending healing vibes to you and bacon.

That is great news! I am keeping my fingers very firmly crossed for him! Give your mum a BIG HUG from all of us! We appreciate what a major inconvenience and sacrifice this is for her.

Sorry was my post re PDSA - didn't realise the Guineapig was from USA - I also didn't realise about the vet care, we are extremely lucky it seems here in UK, - I hope Guineapig24 is able to help little bacon, is a situation no one wants to be in and as a minor? even more difficult and heartbreaking

@GuineaPig24 , I have inboxed you (on the top bar) with the contact details for two highly recommended proper no-kill good care specialist guinea pig rescues in your state; one of them covers the whole of your state. As you are a minor and your location is confidential, I cannot do so on this thread.

This will hopefully give you and your mum a safe fall-back option if the cost of treatment is surpassing what you can afford.

I'm really sorry, night night little one. It did sound like pneumonia to me.

Oh yes, these are things that need immediate attention :( I am sorry Bacon couldn't be saved. Popcorn free little one x

I am sorry that it was too late for Bacon. Once an URI develops into a full blown pneumonia (and it rather sounded like that to me), your chances for a recovery are a lot less good. :(

I hope that you are OK?

Pneumonia kills so quickly, we lost 2 pigs within hours of symptoms appearing.

Yes they do, they have saved my own pigs a few times, especially those with a heart condition but also when Buzz had pneumonia, it was diuretics and Zithromax that got him through. My vets allow me to give diuretics as needed as they know I am familiar with when they are needed and dosing etc though I appreciate not everyone has that luxury.

I am really sorry to read this.

Sleep well little one

Aww poor bacon x at least he has stopped suffering now! Think of all the happy times u had with him as well as the good care u gave him! Pneumonia is a killer. I'm really sorry Hun x your mum and dad should have listened to u. At least u noticed something was wrong and tried to get help from other people Around u. U tried to help him which is all u could have done since your parents didn't think anything was wrong with him.

RIP Bacon!
Have fun at rainbow bridge little man!
Popcorn forever and eat as many dandelions as u like!
U will always be remember and u will never be forgotten!
