I just got my first two piggies today, One was a tuffted brown one, she is super sweet.

We just now noticed she has a very small amount of white crust behind her left ear. It isnt much and there does not appear to be any fur loss at all. Should I be worried? Or will this go away with time on its own?

Any ideas on what it could be? maybe dandruff?

Hey,

Lovely to hear you got your first piggies! They are wonderful little additions to the family, I couldn't be without mine now :)

With regards to the crust, I do not have a clue. Someone else will come along soon who will know a bit more or who will have experienced it and be able to help - keep checking back and good luck! x

Perhaps a picture would help us know how serious the crust is. :) If your in doubt book them in for a check up at the vet. This isnt a bad idea with new piggies anyway to make sure everything is OK :)

It seems to have actually gone down some since yesterday so i am thinking that it is nothing serious. It is about half of what it was wen i took her home

sorry for the bad picture, had to use the digital brightener on my phone so it bleached the photo a little.

It is odd being on the other side of the globe from most of you guys.

Forgot to add, yesterday it was actually built up, today it seems to now be just very very small dots and the skin where the crust was seems healthy and feels normal.

sorry for the 2 posts, the edit button was not there.

I would give behind her ears a wash with cotton wool & plain water, after add a small amount of mostureising cream to the area. Keep an eye on it.
It could just be dry skin but if it speads or wont go away a trip to the vets will be needed.

I just tried that, I am assuming since it went down in size, they groom a little harder than I am. It has not spread yet and has gone down some since she has been here, so I will wait and see if it gets worse or just was a product of her stressful environment where I got her.

The best thing to do is book her in to the vets. It could be the start of a fungal infection. Has she been itching it at all?

We are here to help on the forum but obviously cannot provide diagnoisis, using the wrong thing could make the problem worse so its always important that a profesional helps out. :)

I took them both back to the place I got them to be checked out. They had not read the contract they had me sign that said they would have to contact me when they were well again. They have a vet at the same location so I figured that would be best. I do plan to get them back. Smores may check out fine and come back to me 2mro, Peanut may take a week or more. Is there anything I should watch out for when reintroducing them? Smores just went in to make sure that she did not catch what ever Peanut has.
