My boars stink, all the time! I have 3 boys, one pairing and a single pig.

They are inside for the Winter and no one wants to come into my bedroom because they stink so bad. I changed all their bedding over the weekend and they still stink.
They are on bath mats with puppy pads underneath and the smell just wont go away. I spot clean twice a day.

Please Help!

You poor thing. I have a boar pair but apart from the occasional day they don't smell. Are you sure it's the boys and not lingering smell in the fleece?

Hmm, maybe. I wash them for 2 hours at 40 degrees with one "scoop" of unscented washing powder and a good amount of white vinegar. They are still somewhat stinky when they come out so that may be the issue? But I am not sure what more I could do for that.

I use an eco egg for all my laundry. My fleeces go on a cold quick jeans setting (extra water) and I add water to the drawer as I think the fleeces soak it up. I know some others add water not just me.Screenshot_2023-12-11-22-20-45-34_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.webp

I might try ditching the detergent and just going for a higher heat, see what happens. I swear our pig bedding always came out stinkier when using proper detergent. We just use a bit of white vinegar in the fabcon tray on a 60C wash now, seems to work a treat!

I use Halo Sports wash for our piggy laundry, it is non-bio and also antifungal and antibacterial. We also put Dettol laundry rinse (the one for sensitive skin) in the fabric softener drawer of the washer. We have no problem with any lingering smells. I only wash at 30 degrees on a 2hr cycle. Hope this helps.

We have 7 piggies including 2 boars.

I use laundry cleanser on my washing too. Wet hay really stinks so that could be causing smells. I also agree that over cleaning makes them scent mark more. Also what size is their cage as the smaller it is the more it smells.

Does the fabric conditioner bit of it stop the fleeces from wicking? Is it scented in any way? I am highly allergic to most artificial smells and my throat starts to close up and I can't breathe. Also my eyes water and the lining of my nose starts bleeding, its really delightful! I can only use Lidl's own brand washing liquid, I can sometimes get away with other brands if I have to. I can't wear perfume and have to be careful with what deodorants I buy too.

When I’ve fostered boar pairs the stink increases the more frequently I change their bedding due to scent marking, so changing the cage less frequently or just doing parts each day and leaving others is a good idea.
I always wash the pig laundry on a one hour wash at 60. I use Tesco non bio powder and dettol laundry cleanser or white vinegar in the rinse. I would suggest washing at a hotter temp for shorter to kill any bacteria

Just to add , are you feeding green vegs? As some can make their wee pong.
Depends what is classed as green veg. They dont get cabbage or spring greens, but they do get like romaine lettuce and right now they have spinach aswell.

If you mean anything that's green they also get cucumber, celery, green beans, green pepper. That's right now, they usually don't get all these "extras" at the same time (Celery, Spinach and Green beans) on top of their normal but my parents bought separately and they ended up with a feast.

Ill have to start washing them shorter on a higher temperature and see how that goes. Thanks!

I too have reactions to a lot of products although my issues generally tend to affect my skin. I tried the eco egg after someone recommended it and I have had no problem. The scent is very subtle, obviously I cannot guaranty you won't react. It doesn't stop my fleece from wicking.
