Below are some pictures of Fluffy'Rose, my guinea pig who seems to have a strange marking of baldness on her back. We give her 'Meadow Hay' and after researching, she could have mites from that hay. We have decided to switch to Timothy Hay. We are checking in on a vet on Monday, but do you have an opinion on what it is? It has been there for about three weeks max. She seems to be itching it a lot and when we tried to wash it off with WATER only she started to bite the mat and then giving up and scratching it again.

I'm very worried about it, so thank you to any answer or link that might help ;)

Also, my other guinea pig has nothing wrong (visibly) with her, but we will still take both to be treated too.

Hi, the 'v' shape on your pigy's back looks typical of chewing at itchy skin. skin problems in piggies are very common and are usually caused by mites ( that burrow in the skin) or fungal. your vet should be able to give you appropriate treatment and i would take both piggies along.

Yup Selnic or mange mites :( Take both to the vets for treatment, they aren't caught from the hay but you will need to thoroughly clean out their cage/hutch & also chuck out any cardboard tubes etc & hot wash plastic igloos & whatever.

It's very important to get them seen & treated soon as mange mites can be very serious, the piggies can eventually have fits when scratching :(

After treatment from the vets has finished I recommend you contact Gorgeous guineas & get some of their manuka & neem shampoo, to remove the dead skin & stuff & relieve their itchiness :)

To Both Of You,
Thank you for the advice, it is very useful. I will definitely take both. Thanks once again.
