Patchy and Coco are not behaving normally at the moment, my father has been in hospital the last 3 days and the piggies know he is not here i'm sure. They both love my dad and ever since he hasn't been here they have been very sullen and skittish and a little bit off their food. Normally there is a lot more noise around here like tv going or radio on and talking but we havn't been here much since we have been at the hospital a lot. Their routine has been really disrupted and they are getting fed at odd times and normally dad would be up until 3 in the morning with the lights on and the tv on and now the lights are going off at 10:30 and the tv hasn't even been on. Poor little piggies don't know what's going on and I am a little concerned for them. I hope they will be alright.

Try keeping to the usual feeding times too (or if he feeds them at 3am I would suggest having words with your dad :))). The radio and night light are a good idea. And you could maybe put a piece of his clothing that has his smell on either in the hutch or draped over a part of it?
I would also weigh them to see they aren’t loosing weight.

We don’t always realise how sensitive piggies are to their environment and they will know in their own way that things aren’t right.
How’s your father doing?

Hope your Dad is okay first and foremost mate x

Good idea on leaving some noise on for them, don't worry about them they will adapt

Hope your dad is ok, my mum goes in hospital a lot and it really messes up routines, last sunday we had my mum really sick and a piggy with bloat so mum was cuddled up on the couch with the sick piggy, and mum was trying to feed poorly Puggle her zantac and meloxicam and critical care feed while my husband gave my mum her breathing meds in her nebuliser machine, I was phoning vets and doctors, and the other piggies were freaking out like why has everybody forgotten the daily poop scoop patrol?! Why is our piggy grandma here but not cuddling and overfeeding us?!
No answers for you I'm afraid, just healing vibes and support and look after yourself and your dad and your piggies as best you can :)

First off, I hope your dad is okay. I know that pigs definitely notice disruptions in the routine and may be a bit off when there are sudden changes. Nonetheless, I think they will be fine in the long run. They are just a little confused right now. Just try to keep things as consistent as you can and I'm sure they will settle back in once things get a bit more normal.

It's funny you should say this, once Honey was table enough that I didn't have to check her through the night I started staying at my boyfriends every so often, with my mum looking after my piggies, I would notice a decline in her weight and she was just off, (they're in my room so are used to a lot of interactions with me) it really is surprising how sensitive these little fur balls are...

I can't really add any other suggestions than what the others have, however I do hope your dad recovers soon and that your piggies don't take too much or a sensitive hit 💖

I hope your dad is soon fighting fit again. Piggies are like toddlers. They thrive on routine. But they are also very adaptable. I know that because of how many we see come into the rescue and how quickly they adapt. So if you can try to keep some sort of routine, even if it’s different from your dad’s routine, I’m sure they will soon seem more relaxed again.

Piggies seemed a little happier yesterday as we were home all day (and I added a couple of tunnels to their cage to play in) and had plans to visit dad that night but we got a call mid afternoon that he was being discharged so they are back to their normal routine again and are back to their little happy selves. Thanks for all the replies everyone :)
