oh dear...
could be fungal or mites maybe...?!?!?
good luck at the vets.... if it is one of the above.. then they are both relativly easy to treat by the vets...

good luck...

It looks like a fungal infection I went to the vets the other day for another ailment and whilst there asked what could be used on a piggy and they suggested Canestan and Daktarin. I know that alot of forum members are not fond of using human meds but this is what i was told. However I used some items from Gorgeous guineas.com and they were good too.

looks like fungal or mites to me, if you get a cavy savy vet they will easily be able to diagnose and treat this condition poor little baby! I brought some canesten athletes foot cream when I thought my bumble had fungal as it was recommended on here but never had to use it luckily.

Is there any trauma to the area at all? just that when I took Bumble it turned out she had scratched above her eye and kept scratching it as it healed and ended up with quite a large bald patch. I was given meds by the vet to stop the irritation so it could heal

there is no trama it is strange as it does not seem to bother:{ her she is eating, drinking , pooping and squeaking normally :{

Both pictures are strongly indicative of fungal infecton..(ringworm in fact if I were to hazard a guess) .....HOWEVER

I have never seen fungal so close to the actual eye itself (it looks like it has spread under the eyelid) . I would therefore prefer to get them to a vet on monday to firstly properly diagnose and secondly discuss the most appropriate treatment(s) as the normal daktarin/canestan creams may not be appropriate in this case and you may need an oral anti-fungal.

They have a problem - but provided they get to a CAVY SAVVY vet on monday, it is not life threatening.

Where are you - perhaps we can recommend a good vet for you?

Guinea pigs are natures prey so are extremely crafty at hiding illness, it is good that she is still eating etc normally which gives you a bit more confidence to wait until Monday

But do they know anything about piggies? I was extremely lucky that my only local vets to open on sundays had a rabbit specialist ....who didn;t know that much about piggies but knew more than the average vet because he knew about bunnies... and was therefore open-minded and prepared to learn more about piggies .....and prescribe off license. He saved the lives of 3 of my piggies because he was prepared to read up, discuss, prescribe off license... and listen to the owner.

The most important thing is that your piggie sees a cavy savvy vet....and it can wait until monday rather than see someone tomorrow who doesnt know about piggies at all because they could send you and your piggies round the houses with ineffective treatments......
