Oh dear, is it a bit of straw that has got stuck under the skin? Other than that I have no idea. At least the area doesn't look sore so hopefully your piggy is in no discomfort.

Hopefully someone more experienced is still on here tonight

Is the pigs male/female - any cagemate, etc. A bit more info may shed some light. Any blemish/lump/hardness or flakiness to the skin?

Ouch, that looks like a possible small wound that's healed with a bit of straw caught in it? I don't know :{ hopefully someone else will be able to help you with this :(

What are they bedded on? What cage furniture do they have? It looks almost like a thin piece of metal?

Then it has me a bit stumped. They only thing I can think of that it's a mucous plug (girls shed them at the start of their season) and it has got onto the hair shaft - it's pretty gooey stuff so would stick and stretch if caught on something. It certainly doesn't look to be anything too urgent as there is no problem with the skin.

thanks , will call the vets tomorrow and see what they thing she doesn't seem uncomfortable or anything and is eating and drinking as usual so I'm certain she will be fine over night. will keep everyone updated

I'm so sorry I didn't hink straight and paniked thinking it was something terrible , turns out it was jsut some fur that had got a bit oily and dried. I'm so sorry and very mortified I made such a big mistake :))

Hi it looks like your piggy has a wound maybe abcess? And its been leeking and somehow stuck to a few strands of her fur which has sort of twirled as it dried, could be she was leaning against somthing when it began to seep, tho i dont know for sure? I hope shes going to be ok? Il be interested to know what the vets say,
I had a syrian hamster who had a abcess/ulcer on ts back and that was pretty gruesome! They gave him antibiotics, special wash and cream for him,he was very old and lasted quite some time with this, old age took him in the end,he wasnt suffering as i could see as he was eating drinking and running about, liked being picked up and also his snuggle time,he didny seem in pain otherwise i would have pts, best of luck with your little piggy i know just how worrying it is when your animal friends get poorly :/ your in my thoughts :)

:{ oh would you look at that! Your post just got in before mine did! I glad its been sorted you must be feeling heaps better!

Please don't feel mortified, we all make mistakes.

I once rushed my cat to the vet and told him the skull bone of the cat was coming through his head. Oooops ............. it was a tick that had attached itself, and I was positive it was a piece of bone! I must admit the vet roared with laughter, but not unkindly. I did feel rather foolish!

My favourite one is when people bring their animal in as its "covered in lumps" when all they've done is discovered that their cat/dog/rabbit etc has nipples :))
