Just to say my girl Marbles (died a ripe old age) had a similar accident on concrete.. she couldn't move her back legs the next day (she'd had an appointment the day of the accident at the vets for bumble foot, and it happened when I was putting her in the travel box ), but after a week, she started to get the use of them back.
Give him time, it's more than likely going to take longer than a week, he's eating and drinking, and painkillers will keep him comfortable;)
You're doing ok, chin up eh? (((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))

mallethead all things aside, in my kitchen just having a quick fag (don't smoke near our piggies rolleyes) and know a member on here is a prosthetician and sure she offered to make something for a piggy who lost use of their legs ?/ I could contact her and see ?/
Could this be a future option I wonder, bit forward thinking atm but anything is worth a shot.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your little one. From the stories on the thread so far there certainly is every reason to think your piggy could make a full recovery.
Really hope so,
xx

Get well soon Bubbles

I hope you see some improvement in Bubble's movement soon! Hope he is doing good today. On Monday, if there has been no negative change in his condition, but at the same time no improvement, push for more painkillers and give him at least two weeks. I hope Bubble's story has a happy ending!xox

Hello All,

Bubbles is no different today and he isn't trying to use his legs at all, but he is pulling himself around the cage with his front legs to get to food, then burying himself back under his straw. I put him out on a grass yesterday for a little bit of fresh air and he pulled himself around and munched grass, bless him. I put him in his run with Thomas (his little friend) so that they could spend a bit of time together but Thomas kept mounting him and I was afraid he would hurt Bubbles' back even more. It's just pitiful to see him like this, especially as he is young. We're not sure exactly how old as he came from a rescue as a little friend for Thomas, but he's not an elderly pig.

Thankyou so much for the continued support, it means such a lot especially as a few people close to me have suggested that keeping him alive is cruel, but I think if he was unhappy and in a lot of pain, he would not want to eat and if I though for one moment he was suffering I would have him PTS :(

X

Did the vet say if he is in any pain? The thing is guinea pigs are so good at hiding their pain but I can understand why you are trying to nurse him back to health. You are in a really difficult situation. :(

I know Piggyfan - I really do feel so torn...I just wish it had never happened :( :( :(

The vet said it's a very good sign that he's eating but other than that, said we shouldn't let him carry on for too long how he is.

Oh god. How awful. It does sound like the poor baby is in a lot of pain. Is it possible to get him some sort of wheelchair or would he still be in pain?

Hello all,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on Bubbles' condition. He's stopped moving around as much and has been very quiet today - I popped him on the grass this morning for some fresh air and he managed to drag himself around a bit and enjoyed munching on the grass for around half an hour. He then spent the rest of the day hiding under his straw in his cage until I got him out to give him a little wash early this evening.

I have just got him out to give him his medication and a feed, and he has blood stained urine - it's a very rusty colour (he's incontinent so wee'd on the white towel as I was feeding him).

I feel as though he's deteriorated since Wednesday, and seems to be unhappy whereas before he seemed comfy and content (if that's possible with the condition he's now in)....

We have an appointment booked for Monday, but I'm going to ring the Vet first thing and take him tomorrow - I think I know in my heart what they will say - feeling very sad this evening :(

Thank you again for all your support and advice xxxxx

So sorry to hear of Bubbles deterioration, thinking of you and Bubbles x x

I am a firm believer that you know when the time is right.

So sorry it has come to this, thinking of you all tonight, you must be in bits.

Please take comfort in the fact that you have done your best for him xxxxx

I'm so sorry to hear about Bubbles - just wanted to say we had a guinea back in the mid 70's who had a leg amputated (some hay got wrapped round it whilst we were away and neighbour did not notice this) Squeak lost the leg but lived indoors for about 6 months after or more and managed ok. This was back in the 70's when many vets said PTS - Mum had to travel round until she found one prepared to do the op. Squeak had a board made for the bottom of her indoor hutch - with wooden ridges on - she used this to pull herself round. I was only about 3-4 but remember this.

We also had a paralysed hamster who fell down ill placed rotastack tubes causing spinal injury - he lived on cardboard with ridges in and got round ok - he was a real fighter.

You are trying everything - sorry Bubbles is not doing so well, sending hugs x

Oh no, I'm so sad to read this about Bubbles :0
He sounds as though he has obviously picked up a UTI or has sustained possible internal injuries - so vulnerable :(
Please don't let your vet suggest the 'obvious' if you feel he can pull through this, only you know in your heart :( It's easy for us to say this I know and where do we draw the line ?/ Is it selfish on our part or kinder for him...I feel so very sorry for you in your situation :...

Hello,

I just wanted to post to say that Bubbles is now at Rainbow Bridge - We absolutely distraught, but after speaking with the Vet, I felt this was the kindest thing to do.

I'll post more when I can. Thanks again everyone

Thank you all :(

Guinea Pig slave - your little Pig on the left looks like Bubbles.

Thanks to you all once again, your support has been brilliant xx

Just been reading your thread on poor wee Bubbles. I've recently gone through the same thing with my piggy Ron who is now at Rainbow Bridge. I had to make that agonising decision as well, I'm still devastated but I know I did the right thing because he was so poorly.

Big hugs to you and Thomas.

Popcorn free wee Bubbles, Ron will look after you <3

xx

So sorry for your loss, you did your best for him, I guess he felt you weren't ready for him to go yet so hung on and gave you a chance to say goodbye, sending you hugs ((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))) My piggies send their love too XX
