Vet Bed-what Do You Use Underneath?

I am gradually introducing vet bed into my 3 tier C&C cage and use towels underneath. Also use towels under the fleece on the ground floor. This is great in summer but not looking forward to drying all this in winter! The fleece and vet bed will likely dry quickly over a radiator in winter but wondering if those washable puppy training pads are easier to dry or if anybody uses anything else? (please could you say which vetbed backing you have as I have both regular and non slip and can't yet decide which I like best to invest more money in!) thank you

I use Puppy pads.

I have the green backed stuff, I liked it a lot but could never manage to wash it. I am going to use it again in the outside hutches.

I bought washable incontinenace bed sheets, cut them up and have sewn them up with fleece. They dry quite quickly and do the job , I have only been using for a week or two. X

I use waterproof terry towelling mattress covers under my vet bed. One can just cut it to size like the vet bed. This means you have another washable layer instead of constantly having to buy something. Also unlike towels keeps the bottom of the cage clean because it is PVC on the bottom. You can machine wash them but can't put them in the dryer as the PVC melt. I find they last at least a year & mine cost me only about 10 pounds for a single bed size. I know they have them in the UK as other members use them, just not sure which shops..

I tried one of these when I made my fleece liners for the ground floor but I think the one I bought was a bit too cheap! The waterproof bottom was fine but the terry toweling layer was much to thin... Obviously made the wrong choice there. I have a spare bit but don't think it's worth using, it's also so flimsy it would be hard to keep down when I am putting my vet bed on top as I can only just reach the corner of the middle layer and have to use my 'helping hand'... A long stick with a stuffing filled glove tied on the end. I guess your fabric is much better than mine?

Thanks @artcasper, it's the drying that's important, so that's sold it! Just ordered two to see how it goes. Don't think I could manage the amount of towels I'm using in winter!

@sophieandhoney,just interested in what you mean about not managing to wash it? I've only recently started with vet bed and have some of each type, but still experimenting on how to get it clean properly. Have a horse wash bag and laundry tablets and washing at 40 (my machine takes hours if you ask it to do 60, and the sellers advise only doing 60 of the is infection etc to prolong the life of it,) however my green stuff has white wee marks on the underside?

My washer is always on with a fashion conscious 10 year old daughter ... I took mine out the washer last night and it felt quite dry to the touch... I thought it would work well and be more cost effective in the long run than disposable stuff... Still read things on here all the time so lots of ideas!

Thanks that sounds great and yes I find this site invaluable! My youngest daughter is a teenager now so it's difficult to get stuff off her to put in the wash... One extreme to another lol!

Mine has been good & lasts about 1 year before the PVC layer starts cracking. The single mattress size only costs me about 10 pounds. It could just be the shop here .I buy them at Kmart, not sure if you have that. Used to be an American chain then they went out of business but kept all their overseas shops.
