Hiya i would ask everyone how much would be the vet for a respiratory infection my guinea pig has one i am really worried about him i like in the uk and the vet costs might be very dear i never been to the vet with him before plz i am very scared about hin

Hello

It depends on the vet - we pay £30 ish for intial consult and meds then just meds on follow ups. Where are you based we may be able to recommend a good vets

It depends on what type of treatment your piggie needs and which vets you go to.

I went and it cost me £25 for the consult and baytril and I got him to clip their Nails whilst I was there.

The baytril didn't work so I went back a week later and it cost me £18.50 ish for septrin. Hoping this works now!

Previously it had cost me £35 for consult, baytril, and critical care but as long as they are still eating and don't need critical care then that should knock a tenner off!

With Toffee, my past piggie, it was normally £20-£30 including meds and he had a lot of URIs and Pneumonia a few times.

How do you know for sure your piggy has a respiratory infection, sounds like you've not been to a vet?

The costs others have said sound about right, but as you can see there is a little variance so I suggest you call round any vets you might realistically be able to get to and ask them for their small animal/exotic prices. They should be able to give you a consultation price, though may not be able to tell you treatment pricing without knowing the specific treatment your piggy needs.

Hope this thread has helped with planning a vet appointment, good luck :)

Can you see mucus or is it just wheezing? I had a piggy develop symptoms, had bad mucus, and deteriorate within a few hours so badly that she needed to be put down. You don't want to delay seeing the vet.

Tank you

I can hear that he has it when i put him near my ear and i can hear like abit or snoring its very quiet so i think its not that dangerous yet but if i get him to the vet faster it will be better before it gets worse

You need to find out which vets are in your area and call them because all vets vary in cost.

I just called and i already have an appointment booked on tuesday i asked for the price but she said that its the vet who dicides how much it is

Tuesday next week? That seems a long time to wait and it's odd that they can't give you a consultant fee quote. Is there another vet you can go to?

You can always cancel the booking if you find another vet that your prefer. I can usually get an appointment the same day at my vets, waiting until next Tuesday is crazy. Guinea pigs can take a turn for the worse very quickly.

Well i just called on the other vet and just the consulation is £25 and then id have to pay the vet aswell so my dad says its too much

The consultation is paying the vet. There would only be £25 plus any medication, to pay. Mine charges £35. What does your Dad think you should do, just leave the guinea pig with a possible life threatening illness with no treatment? I'm wary of the other vets if they can't tell you the cost over the phone, it could be more than £25 and your guinea pig may not survive until Tuesday. Unfortunately vet fees are one of the costs of owning a pet.

He still eats runs about everything its just that at night he like kind of snores my dad would not let him die my dad is not one of them people you think he says that there is nothing wrong with him but i think there is something wrong so my dad wants to wait until he sees something wrong with him himself and he said if he sees sonething he will take him to the vet immiadently without caring how much it would be

@Cristiano Well, with the greatest respect, only a vet can diagnose a respiratory infection and its severity, plus you do say in your first post you're very scared for him.

I hope you manage to get your pig to a vet soon, as others have said, respiratory issues in guinea pigs can be serious.

Again, as others have mentioned, piggies can go downhill really quickly, so waiting for this to happen and only taking action when your dad 'sees something is wrong' is really risky in terms of a good outcome or could involve more intensive (and potentially more expensive) treatment.

I've had a few pigs taken to the vets with URTI and usually costs 50-60 pounds.

How much do you think it would be for a health checkup

Mine had some rattling with breathing from having wood shaving bedding. If you see mucus on their nose, the guinea pig needs immediate treatment.
