Varies from place to place and on what treatments you need :)...what do you need the vet for?

consultations are usually charged per piggy (they are for me anway) and mine cost £10.25 per pig. But it really varies from place to place, so its good to get on the phone and find a vet that doesnt charge the earth and has a good bit of guinea knowledge for if you ever need them in the future :) O0

I paid £25 for the first consultation, when I first registered with the practice. Now it's always £15 for the consultations even if I'm bringing along a pet they haven't seen before. It seems it really does vary alot.

1st consultations at mine are £14.50 then £12 (i think) for each subsequent visit with that particular piggy.

oooh... Do you know?... I cant remember! I just pay it! Um... think its around £14 for a general consultation

I pay $40 just for the consoltation! then treatment on top of that! its pathetic really!

It costs me £16.50 for a consultation. I took mine for the treatment of mites and it cost me £19.50 for a 2 drops of spot on!

just plain check ups cost me £12.00, but if they need treatment it costs more. :)

Ive just been today as my piggie has ann abscess consultation was £9.35 and treatment Baytril was £10.20

this much for my pigs...

but just remembered... they wanted $80 to see my dying budgie! just for the consolt! MORE for treatment!

:o I`ve been going to my vet for 12 years.....he once said they had made a bed up for me , seeing I was there so much ! Reason is I take on any animal healthy or not. I know he doesn`t charge me full price all the time. I had to have a guinea PTS 3 weeks ago and he only charged me £8. :)

I have paid various prices for my piggies, when I took Ringo and Star I was charges about 12ish for the pair amber went to the vets last weekend and I paid £21 that was for meds aswell. I am going tomorrow again for a check up i have no idea how much that is gonna cost.

Thats taking the michael! makes me sick..... :P :tickedoff:
Depending if thats oz dollars or US - thats around 40 pounds (sorry my pound sign doesnt work! ::) ) just to have a little chat!
It makes you wonder if they are just taking advantage of you being in a vulnerable position (with a very ill pet) cos they know you'll pay it. I dunno... :-\ its hard to decide but I'm hoping people dont take advantage...

I pay £10.88 for my consults, which is not a bad price compared to some places in my area.

My vets charge £10.50 consultation fee. But all my piggie health checks are done for free in the comfort on my own home only because my best friend is a vet and visits me quite often and always gives them the once over for me while she is here :)

how handy is that pumpkinpiggie

i use to pay £18 at vacination clinic, they are meant to be cheap, moved to another vets when i wasn't happy with the treatment gizmo and baby was getting( wanted to put them down)

the vets i'm now with charge about ten pound and medication is cheap. x-ray and pain killer £80 as i just found out but they are good
and don't always charge when i take more than one.

my vet charges approx £8 per guinea pig for consultation which i suppose isnt too bad, ut some charge more it depends which vet is in the practise at the time, they charge more for rabbits and sometime i end up paying that price! :tickedoff:

does depend on what vet is on. when i took shea and her 3 girls down on regular visits for mites the vet only eva charged me one fee of £10 for all 4 which i thought was very fare.

i have just come back from the vets, it was my first visit with reggie and ramone, reggie had a skin scrap because i think he has mites (no mites seen under the microscope thou) and a special shampoo for them both

this cost £46, i thought it was a bit costly :(

My vet is fantastic :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

He does an MOT for my four and charges ten quid for the lot. He has also done consultations for nothing for me and even given me some antibiotics. He will check out any lump on an animal for nothing. i am so lucky and will miss him so much when I move. I would actually consider bringing my guins up to see him because he is so good with them.

ROGER WE LOVE YOU! :smitten:

It really does seem to vary from area to area. But if you havent already do check that your vet knows about piggies before you pay silly amounts for a check up.
I went to a vet once to get some ivomec for mites she first of all didnt like the fact that i had already diagnosed the problem and secondly got shirty because I had to keep telling her it was a guinea pig NOT a hamster. Then she charged me over £25!
So worth a call just to check that they have a piggy vet on board!
