I have two piggies. Flo and Sally who we adopted about 3 months ago. They are getting on great and fitting into our household amazingly. I was thinking of setting up a vet fund for them and put away some money each month. Just in case. I was just wondering how much money everybody set aside? Thank you

hmm this is the how long is a piece of string question. If you are lucky they will never get ill and not cost you a penny in terms of vets fee's. However, operations etc can run into the hundreds of pounds. I would encourage you to save as much as you comfortably can to ensure the money is there when needed. If you find after a while that it has built up far more than you anticipated you can always dip in to buy something for yourself (or treat the piggies :)))

I was thinking maybe £25/£30 a month to start off with and see how we get on. We would always be able to pay for any operations etc but would be nice to have some money tucked away to take the pressure off.

:agr: Piggies tend to get ill or have hay poke at the most inconvenient times imaginable. One of my piggies had to have life saving operation back in May and it cost a lot of money. He is OK now thankfully but it was very stressful at the time. As @Lady Kelly has already mentioned, you need to put away each month what you can easily afford.

I am a believer in keeping my piggies healthy through good veggies, endless hay, Oxbow pellets and clean housing for them.
But if they do get sick, I will support them all the way through, I have enough funds to see through everything they need. They are my family and families look out for each other. I have 2 guinea pigs and 6 hamsters currently.

My exotic vet is surprised that I sometimes bring in tiny hamsters to be seen. Apparently, not many bring in tiny creatures to be seen by the vet. I learned that in the exotic vet's waiting room.
