Hi, I’m changing my vet for my guinea pigs. I would like an affordable amount for two checkups. The problem is that on vet websites it doesn’t say the amount for guinea pigs. Also is there any recommendations for vets in the West Midlands?

Charges will vary widely between vets, so the best thing to do is call and ask them directly.

To find a recommended vet near you use the 'vet locator' tool in the green bar at the top of the page.

My vet charges £18.60 for a consultation.
The larger concerns tend to charge more - my vet is a local group with a few surgeries around a hospital in Swindon.
Which vet is good with small animals and understands piggies?

You can find our recommended UK vets locator on the top bar.

Vet fees vary widely. Exotics vets (which guinea pigs are officially classed at) are generally much more expensive than your normal general vets, but they usually are more up on guinea pigs.
If you use a no-frills chain, you take your potluck as to how piggy-savvy the general vet is you are seeing (some can be decent, others won't have the first clue about piggies as I know from my own experiences with piggy emergencies) but you generally pay a lot less but also get less extra service and only a more limited range of medications.

You can always enquire at a vet clinic as to their consultation fees before you book your guinea pigs in.

Mine charge £15 for a consultation. They aren’t an exotic vets but I like the vet we see - she always seems very knowledgeable about piggies.

My vets charges £34 per consultation + meds. I am happy to pay this as they are very good and last week saved the life of Christian who had a very big operation and the vet nearly called me during the op and asked for permission to pts.

My vet in Solihull charges £16 for a consultation if I remember correctly. The West Midlands is a big area, roughly whereabouts are you/what areas can you get to? Mine aren't on the locator, but the vet I saw when my Zebedee was poorly earlier this year was very good with him.

I’m in Berkshire and pay £30 for a consultation but my vet is brilliant with my boy and his dental issue and I can often sneak in two pigs at same time. Last week I took the dog and pig in and only got charged for one consultation :))

I forgot to say that if you are using a general vet, it is always good if they are willing to refer to an exotic specialist if needed.

My vet is a general vet but she is very good with guinea pigs and rabbits. However, she is always happy to consult with an exotics vet if needed
