Hi all. I have a poorly pig named Samwise. He has recently been diagnosed with a bladder stone. The vet mentioned that the x-ray showed the stone is probably too large to pass. My current vet doesn't do guinea pig surgery. Sam is in pain and I can't bare to see him like this anymore.

Is anyone here from Toronto, Canada? I am seeking vet recommendations for possible surgery. And if anyone has info on costs? Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry to hear Sam is unwell.
I'll tag @Freela who lives in Canada but I'm not sure which part.
Have you looked on the guinea lynx website for recommended vets in your country?

Hi and welcome

Here is the Guinea Lynx list of recommended vets for Canada. There are several in the Toronto area if you scroll down: Veterinarians: Canada - Guinea Lynx Records

All the best! As long as the stone is located in the bladder and doesn't get stuck in the awkward inglenook that boars have in the urethra, the prognosis is not bad at all. :tu:

Please also make sure that you start with glucosamine support in order to help the natural glucosamine coating of the beleaguered bladder walls now and in the aftermath. Look online for cat bladder supplements that are glucosamine based; they are the other species prone to bladder problems. It really makes a difference in the comfort and healing process.

I'm an hour or so east of Toronto. When I lived in Toronto I had good experiences with Links Road Animal Hospital for small exotics (though it's been a long time since I have been there, and I'm outside of the city now.) Now I go to Clarington Animal Hospital (east of Oshawa) and have had good experiences there too. No experience with this particular surgery, though, but it may give you a place to start.
