We asked the vet today (we were there with Blod) about Piggle's slightly sore overactive grease gland, and if it needed a vet trip.
Piggle had an olive oil bum massage then a bum bath a month ago, but it definitely needs doing again so we thought we'd mention it to the vet.
The vet (not our usual vet, but she knew straight away what a guinea pig grease gland was!) said a hibiscrub bum bath might help, has anyone else had this recommended to them? Or might it just be to stop it becoming infected rather than actually cleaning it? We made a vet appointment next friday for Piggle's grease gland problem anyway, and I think I'll do a bum bath today as she has a wet sticky brown smelly patch... but should I use hibiscub? Isnt that maybe a bit harsh to soak her lady bits in? Or should I give a bum bath then wipe the grease gland with hibiscrub on some cotton wool? Or maybe I'll just wash her bum with Gorgeous Guineas shampoo for today then wait for the vet to show us where and how to put hibiscrub...

Went with olive oil then gorgeous guineas shampoo in the end, here's the before the bum bath yucky bum pic:

And the after bath clean bum pic:

I think its worth seeing the vet though as I dont think a young lady less than 18 months old should have this sort of grease gland mess building up in 4 weeks? Its definitely not coming from her bladder, lady bits or bottom which are very clean, so I guess its grease gland? Its very greasy and a bit crusty but there's no broken skin or anything sore to see except yucky bum fur...

She's fine in herself except some yucky brown gunk at the rear! Eating lots, running about, maintaining and even gaining weight (1160g today, 1145 last week, 1120 a month ago when we last did a bum bath).
And her poops are definitely fine as she pooped right in my hand while I was shampooing her bum fur!
Still going to take her to the vet though, just to see what they say, its not bothering her but its bothering me with summer coming because its the sort of thing that I worry could attract flystrike... I dont want to bath her too often unless the vet recommends it...

We have the same problem with Bill and Ted, they have really greasy grease glands too. I’d be interested to know what’s best, tried everything but swarfega! Nothing seems to make a difference x

Hibiscrub is a mild disinfectant that your vet has recommended to prevent infection in the sore bits.

I was advised by my vet to buy hibiscrub online and use it diluted to gently bathe Donald and Lily's respective parts to help prevent infection. Lily is messy since we got home from holiday and I am suspecting grease gland too so I used gorgeous guineas shampoo followed by a wipe down with hibiscrub and she's looking a lot better for it
