Off to the vets with Dave and Maggie this evening!

Maggie is making funny breathing noises, coupled with wet sounding sneezes, so hopefully not her abscess problem again!

Big Dave is making whingy noises when he walks, and is bunny hopping. He's at least 5 years old, so may trial some pain relief and see if that helps!

I only said the other day that the pigs hadn't cost me any money recently mallethead

You spoke to soon! Poor Dave and Maggie, fingers crossed for them both.

x

hope they are both ok x

Vet visit for two is now three...taken a deformed pekin chick that hatched yesterday, so that's being put to sleep

Oh dear. I feel for you. Ive got a £250 bill from the latest lot still to pay, 2x GA xray piggies. rolleyes

Now i have a sow with fungal (in the herd!), a chesty girl (probably a URI) and some suspicious bleeding the other day from one of the boars? None since

Treating Maggie as a URI at the moment, and Big Dave is on a trial of metacam as there's nothing yet to suggest he has any kidney damage or anything.

Blimey Amanda! you better not be starting 2013 as you mean to go on!- hope they all perk up soon! xx

Well Big Dave is already squeaking less after some metacam a few hours ago, but still squeaking. I may see about accupuncture for him.

awww really hope they both get better soon
i never knew they did accupuncture on piggies my dog has it
it,s a great help to him x

I work in a large veterinary hospital and one of the vets does accupuncture, and has successfully done it on a guinea pig before, with good results!

Glad to hear Dave is showing some improvement already, hope Maggie improves quickly and this is not the outline for 2013! x

I hope not! I called the insurance company this morning...Maggie has £740 left until the end of may!

You best tell her to stop now, I wonder if they will increase your premium. I'm still waiting to see if they will cover Fred but I was however a bit slow in my posting of said documents the insurance people don't even have them yet but they did tell me they take 5 days to access so hopefully I'll find out soon! :)

I don't think so - I had the petplan lady at work - apparently "most" pet insurance companies pricing is done by the age and breed of the animal - it doesn't go up if you claim, like car insurance would - similarly, there's no discount for no claims.

Well, big Dave is still squeaking when he's walking around, but he's walking around more, so there's an improvement there.

Maggie is much the same, most disgruntled at having to have baytril twice daily (given her history of bloating, she's on a lower dose twice a day rather than a higher dose once a day) but we made friends again after I picked the furry bits out of the Timothy hay and gave them to her rolleyes

Amelia Jane has arthritis and is on loxicom. I find it wears off after a while and give her Potters Tabritis. She has half a tablet crushed in water and syringed and I have noticed she squeals a lot less when she walks. You may like to try it on Dave.

Yeah I'll most likely try something else but he only started the loxicom yesterday, so need to give it a bit of time to see exactly how it's working before trying other things, or I'll never know which ones are working! He had a higher dose yesterday as a loading dose, tonight it'll be a lower dose so will see how he gets on
