Just curious what others do when they have one piggy going to stay at the vets for the afternoon - do you take the cage mate too?

My Maisie has to go for a heart and lung scan tomorrow and wondered if I should let bossy Alice accompany her.

Maisie might feel better if she has her cage mate with her & she might be less scared. Plus if Alice joins her she won’t be worried as to where Maisie’s gone. These are just thoughts, I’m not that experienced with this scenario I’m afraid. Good luck with her heart & lung scan though & let us know how she got on x

:agr: - I always like to take mine with their cage mate. But.... do be careful, we have had one member where the wrong guinea pig was scanned :yikes:

My guineas sometimes have to go in to boarding. One of mine is on medication so, I always take them with a factsheet which has a picture of each of them and up to date details

Thanks both. She’ll be seeing her usual cavy savvy vet, so hopefully no cases of wrong piggy tomorrow!

I always take a piggy pal, I feel my pigs are happier going out with company.

I guess bossy company is better than no company! I was just concerned that Maisie would be away for the afternoon and come back smelling different and Alice might have a prob with that, but fingers crossed, as I'll be taking Alice, they won't be apart for that long.

I’d keep them together. That’s what I tend to do. They get over the shock of being at the vets quicker when they have company.

I also prefer to keep them together.

I have three piggies and they all go to the vet, since none of them is happy on their own. The vets don't mind at all

My vet is happy that I take 2 together when 1 has an appointment. My vet said it calms the one down that needs treatment and so making them easier to handle. :)

I am looking to expand my heardette to 4 this summer/autumn, so I won't need to carry all three pigs to the vets all the time

Also does anyone leave the room when are being treated so they don't associate you as the mean lady lol

I think they will need their piggy mummy to be there for them during consultation. They might feel even more scared if you suddenly disappear & they’re left with scary vet person. x

that's a good point ok I will stay with them whilst they get their manicure

I always take mine in pairs, and I always stay in the room when they are being treated.
I don't know if they associate me with the treatment, but I want to know exactly what happens, plus it gives me more opportunity to ask questions!
Plus my vet now accepts that i am pretty competent and knowledgeable, and will offer me the chance to help with things like x-rays etc. before calling the nurse in, all of which I find fascinating.

Yes, agree with all that - I love to be involved and ask loads of questions.

I always stay with them. Dennis hates the vet. As soon as he is on the examination table, he takes one look at the vet, does a swift 180, legs it up my jumper, onto my shoulder and cowers behind my hair! He seems to know whether he is there for treatment or there as a companion cos if he is a companion paw holder he just sits there on the examination table quite happily. :hmm:

Awww! That's really cute! They can move pretty quickly when the need arises!
