Does anyone know of a vet in or around Gloucestershire who will x-ray pigs without general anaesthetic?

I have a 4 year old pig, Charlie, who started getting a very wet tummy earlier this week. I took him to the local vet on Tuesday who said he has cystitis and gave me Baytril. I asked for Septrin but was told they don’t stock it…

As well as Baytril I’m now giving him water, cranberry juice, probiotics and Calpol. He’s losing his appetite so I’m also giving him Metatone and will have to start feeding him if he doesn’t pick up soon. He’s still getting very wet and although there’s no sign of blood, he squeaks when he wees.

I’d like him to be x-rayed to check for bladder stones but not under general anaesthetic. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear he's not well, sounds like you're on the right track thus far and I agree an xray is the next obvious step.

There are two vets listed on TGPF Vet List, not sure if either would xray without anaesthetic but worth ringing and asking:

Wood Veterinary Group, in Quedgeley, 01452 520056

The Vale Veterinary Group, in Stinchcombe, 01453 542092

hiya

My vet just xrayed my guinea pig without anaestetic but hes located in bristol emersons green- let me know if you want his details he is very very good

I've spoken to both Wood Vets and Vale Vets and they both say they can do x-rays without anaesthetic :)

I've made an appointment for tomorrow at Wood Vets. I also asked the receptionist if they prescribe Septrin as an alternative to Baytril and although she wasn't sure she said they definitely have it in stock, so fingers crossed I see someone who knows what they're talking about when I go there tomorrow...

Interestingly, another local vet said they could do conscious x-rays and then when I asked about Septrin she said they didn't know because they 'hardly treat any guinea pigs at all'. Hmmm.

My piggies Mimsi was X-Rayed last year for bladder stones. The vet wasnt happy when I insisted no GA was given. Needles to say, Mimsi behaved beautifully and they got three X-rays.
