Can this be given to guinea pigs effectively by sprinkling it on their food or does it have to be added to drinking water? I guess it'd be hard to accurately dose by sprinkling the powder but am just wondering if anyone administers it this way?

Thanks x

I have recently started to use this while my girl was on antibiotics, I added it to the water-bottle, as well as them having plain water in another, all of my 5 girls seemed to like the taste, the bottle went down quicker than the plain. Also when she was being syringe fed I would add a sprinkle to make sure she was getting adequate. Although now I am on my second tub the colour is a much darker green than before, not sure if there is something wrong with the powder, going to e-mail manufacturers to make sure it is safe to use.

Thanks Midge & Panda. I've used it lots in their water before but just never sprinkled it on their food, so wasn't sure. Do you think the dark colour may be a result of the tub being stored in damp conditions perhaps? Good idea to check with them just be sure though.

Its a thought about it being stored incorrectly, I havent given it to the girls yet, if it is down to the storage conditions its going back to P@H. Does anybody know of other probiotics available with out having to go to the vets?

In the past i've given it by sprinkling onto wet veg for pigs who weren't big drinkers but most of mine love it & will choose it over plain water.

Thanks Niki. Yossi isn't a big drinker, in fact he only drinks what I give him by syringe so this is really useful to know.

I have put it in the water bottle before as well as sprinkling onto veg, especially veg like cucumber where it just seems to soak straight in.
When Yorkie was poorly i was also putting it in his syringe food and mixing it in that way to make sure he got his vit c and everything else he needed.
They seem to prefer the water when it has that stuff in, it must taste nicer! x

Well I use VetaFarm probiotics when my boys are on antibiotics and what I like to do is mix a few pinches of it with water in a tiny bowl and then syringe it into their mouth the way I would with medication. That way I can ensure they are getting all of the nutrients from it and that it's definately kicking in.
Also sometimes I sprinkle it onto thier pellets, this works too.

Hope this helps :)

I also use this in the drinking water for Dolly and Duke right now, all my pigs have had it in the water and all prefer the water with it in.

One thing to remember with this is change it every day without fail and scrub the bottles with a bottle brush every day too. It's good stuff but bacteria can multiply fast so hygiene is important.

What is the correct dosage if I mixed it in their water bottle?

According to the instructions on the tub, Pro-C is one measuring scoop (comes included) for every 200ml water. Bear in mind what Lisa said about changing it regularly though, so (to save wastage) you'll probably need to scale it down a bit, depending on how many pigs are sharing the bottle and how much they'll drink in a day. (e.g. one pig may only need a quarter scoop to 50ml water, per day)
