Hi

I've just taken delivery of 5m x 1.5m of vetbed and have cut a section to fit the cage but pretty much immediately the piggies wet it and it started to smell. Should it be washed a few times before use? Sorry to be a numpty but I've not used it before! I hope that the expense will prove worth it, at the moment I am doubting it....

Thanks.

i think it's like fleece, that you have to wash it at a hot temperature before use. also, you need something under it, either towels of thick layers of newspaper.:)p:)p

Great, thanks for that. I've only got them doing a 'test run' of the new cage at the moment so I'll take it out and give it a good washing and see how it goes. Hopefully I've not wasted my money then!

How often do people generally change the vetbed in the cage?

I didnt wash mine before first use (lazy :))) but as Claire says, you do need a thick layer of newspaper underneath. The wee runs through the vetbed onto the paper so change the paper and vetbed 2-3 times a wheek (depending on how many piggys/size of cage) :)) you can brush the poops up daily.

Do not use fabric conditioner as this acts as a barrier and the vetbed wont be as effective!

I have bought the vetbed with the waterproof lining underneath, saves putting newspapers under. Was a bit concerned they might chew the rubbery underside, but none of them do. I use in 3 of my cages. It washes well, and mine seem to love it. x
