In my Guinea Pig's shed mainly! LOL
Hi guys,

Penelope has been limping since yesterday, on what we think is her right hind leg. She's her normal self other than that.
She must have done something to it between 2:15 and 6:30, because my mother checked on them at 2:15 and she said there was no sign of limping - and it is quite obvious.

So, anyone know any trust-worthy vets in Stoke?
I live close enough to there, so where ever will be okay.

Btw, I've checked the Recommended Vets topic but couldn't find any for S-O-T.

Also, any ideas what it could be? It was very strange for it to come on all of a sudden.

Thanks x

Ask Helen or Claire ( Potteries Guinea Pig rescue) if you have any questions. :)

Thank you! I use Willow Veterinary Clinic atm, they have been fab with my cats, but I'm unsure if they have a lot of experience with Guinea Pigs...
They helped with the mites.

I've now found out it's her front leg, as it's curled up. She was standing funny to support not using her other leg - duh! God I feel stupid. I touched her foot - fine. Touched her leg. Bit me. However, she is quite a nippy pig, so I touched her other one to check and she bit me again... so hopefully it's nothing big.
We're going tomorrow, hopefully she will be okay and it's just a bruise or something. :S

Best of luck! It is not unusual for active piggies to twist their legs (and yep, that can include the shoulder and hip joints!) If it is a bad sprain, it can take a few days or even a couple of weeks to heal.

We ended up going to our usual vet, and they were very good. Turned out it was her front leg, I realized the day before I went. Duh! I feel so stupid haha, but anyway, she gave it a very good feel over for ages and felt nothing. Then she checked her foot and again nothing! She then turned her over on her back and little 'Nel screamed bloody murder! It was so shrilling! The vet put her finger on her throat though (gently, ofc), and she couldn't speak as loud then.

Bless her, she looked so upset!
She gave us some liquid drops that I had to put in her mouth one a day, two drops.

They seemed to really help, but once they were all gone, she was still limping a little, but her foot was on the floor, where as it wasn't before.
It's been a few weeks now, and she's been improving ever since. We didn't think we needed to take her back the vets, all that stress again, when she was walking on it and it would probably get better on it's own from now.

Thank you for the vet advice guys. If anyone wants the address for my vets, it's this website.

Best regards,
Isabella, Tallulah, Penelope & Lily.
