Having had piggys for the past 3 1/2 years we have built up a good relationship along the way with our local vets which are part of a larger group including a hospital for small animals. Recently we found ourselves in the sad position of having to have our beloved wee piggy Gromit PTS and we have only praise for the vet group and all of the staff we came into contact with. They were both caring and understanding of our position even with a wee piggy and they all knew his name and updated us when we rang to check on his progress. Obviously after a week of dedicated treatment and care for our Gromit the best and the most difficult decision was to let Gromit go. Morven our vet who has always had a great interest in piggies was just as upset as we were to lose our boy. We received a beautiful card from the surgery signed by all of the staff which will remain a treasured memory of Gromit. Our vet asked us to bring in Wallace to the surgery to ensure that he did not have any infection that may have been passed on from Gromit. When we arrived at the surgery the receptionist again passed on her condolences on the loss of Gromit which we thought was a touching gesture.

We will soon be introducing Tim to Morven and I'm sure she will be delighted to meet him and see how he is getting along with Wallace. We are sure that we will have many years of nail clipping and weighing, and ahhhhhh teeth checking ahead of us. Its really great for us to know that although ours vets are part of a large practice Morven always provides the personal touch and we will always be grateful to her.

Its lovely to hear you have had such a great experience regarding vets and surgery staff,.. i must say all my local vets are not interested at all and when i took ditto to the vets recently for his hay poked eye the vet wasnt polite at all i was struggling to get ditto out of his travel carrier as he was scared and the vet tutted at me spun the travel carrier round so it was facing him and dragged ditto out roughly, i must say i was not impressed but remained quiet, he then got frustrated as ditto wriggled as he tried to hold him tight to look at the eye with a torch and keep sighing and tutting, so in the end i said let me hold him hes getting more and more stressed, once the examination was over the vet left the room and came back with a lotion and told me to book back in after a week, i had to ask what the lotion was for, what was the injury to the eye, and how many times a day do i need to put the lotion into the eye? .. i found the vet rude and i would not use again.. then the reception said, 'Right are we booking another appointment for this time next week then for Ditto the tricolour rabbit' and i said No ill call at a later date to book due to work commitments and hes a guineapig not a rabbit. they had him saved onto there system as a rabbit! i mean seriously.. i am aware that not all vets are this bad but i have lost faith in vets in general over the years..

I'm sorry to hear about Gromit.

We received a beautiful card from the surgery signed by all of the staff which will remain a treasured memory of Gromit.

That's so thoughtful and touching. :)

I believe there's a sticky of recommended vets on the forum, perhaps you should post the surgery's details on there?
