Posting in a rush as we have an emergency appointment at 5, but Bluey is rather unwell :-(

Last night during cuddles she bled very slightly on me. Bright red blood no more than a pin prick amount, and was hiccupping and reaching under herself.
We always had doubts on the locum vets diagnosis of cysts, so hoped that this was the start of her labour and so made her comfortable and quietly watched her all night... I slept on the sofa... - slept she says! I lay on the sofa all night!

She cleaned herself up, had some food, water and hay and then went to sleep, no more blood, no labour or contractions....

She has been very quiet all day, although she has been eating/drinking/toileting as normal, so when I reached in for cuddle and clean out time I was concerned that she squeeled..
I picked her up and there is dried blood on her vulva and she is dirty on her skirt, the smell coming from her is the same smell I would be greeted with when going to a lambing with dead lambs inside of the ewe.

We are now convinced that both girls are pregnant and that the babies have died inside of them and they don't have the correct levels of hormones to induce labour normally.

We are seeing the boss vet, and I'll be asking if Oxytocyn will induce uterine contractions and resulting in labour for both girls, combined with either baytril or doxycycline for the infection resulting from the rotten fetus's (sorry, I know that's a bit TMI for some people!)

So Piper will accompany Bluey to the vets, and we will be getting to the bottom of this.... Poor babies.... In all my years of having piggies, all the years that I intentionally bred them, I have never had problems like this :-(

Love to all, will update when I can x

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, for a speedy recovery for both pigs. I understand how much you will be worrying, I can't even begin to imagine. Sending tons and tons of get well wishes to you and the pigs. I am so sorry to hear that they are still not well. Thinking of you and the girls, bit hugs x

Oh my goodness. What a time you are having at the moment.

Thinking of you all and hope you will be able to get it all sorted out soon.

Sending lots of hugs and healing vibes xx

Awwww terrible news! Fingers crossed for the poor girls, at least they will be able to comfort each other in their own piggy ways :( x

Awwww no, I hope she recovers. :( Healing vibes, fingers crossed for you. x

I hope both piggies are ok and sorey if I fat they had lost their babies

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and vibes, we have just got back from the vets and settled the girls.

I love the head vet, he is wonderful!
We went in, flapping slightly, and he welcomed Jo with open arms and a massive smile - Don't worry he says, we will sort it :-) Bless him!

He cuddled Blue whilst we told him all about the last appointment and the locum's diagnosis, how we came to have them both, our experience with piggies, and our thoughts on what was going on, then he gently examined both girls before 'hmmmm-ing' and whipping out a little mobile scanner! He scanned both of them, and showed us that they do not have cysts! They have however both aborted late pregnancies which is why Blue has discharge and they both have uterine infections.
We are all of the same mind that they are from such interbred bloodlines and were so very underweight and malnourished and small when got them that their little bodies couldn't hold onto the fetus's.

So, the outcome, they have both had a little antibiotic and inflammatory injection and have been sent home with baytril - 1ml twice daily - and metacam once daily for Bluey as she is quite uncomfortable and guarding her tummy.

As I am typing both girls are bombing around their pen with bits of pepper in their mouths , so I think we have caught it just in time and I'm crossing everything that our babies will be fine!

And the other excellent bit - we only got charged for the medication since the locum got it so wrong with the girlies, and things could have been caught earlier had he been a little more willing to listen to us.
As I said, I LOVE the head vet! x

This has brought tears to my eyes I can't see to type. I'm so pleased for you all what a lovely vet, fingers crossed the girls go from strength to strength now very quickly.

Oh thank goodness! You must have been so worried. Thank goodness you were on the ball with it all. Hope they are both completely better very soon

@piggieminder Bless your heart! I must admit, I have had a little snot on both of them when we got back - and then a larger snot on Jo!

These girls, Lettie, the cats and dogs, they are our children, I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago due to gyne problems, and Jo's health means that she may not be able to conceive and carry, even if we did find a donor we like, so these guys are our lives!

I'm so thankful for this forum, to know that there are others out there who love their babies as much as we do! x

So glad that the head vet has managed to start sorting all your problems.

Healing vibes, fingers &paws all crossed for 100% recovery.
Keep us updated.
big hugs for u all.

The girls &I .Xx

So glad they're okay! It's great when you have a kind vet, makes the whole situation a lot more bearable. Healing vibes. x

How are your sweet girls today? Fingers crossed that they are doing great and still bombing around.:hug::hug:

Best wishes , looking forward to hearing the update

PHEW! Relief all round. Hope they will soonbe back to 100% and thank goodness for vets that know what they are doing:)

Hi guys, sorry I haven't updated - been so busy!

Bluey is boinging around like there has been nothing wrong with her, and it looks like Piper wont need any more baytril as she was on it as a 'just in case' - she has had one dose today and we will see how she is in the morning to see if she look like she will be fine without.
Blue is still on 2 doses, and had one droplet of Metacam last night as she was a little guarded still, but so far is feeling fine today :-) Massive relief all round!

There is another reason we have been busy...... that will be in Guinea pig chat shortly! x
