Connie is at the minute in her carry case ready to go to the vets for an x ray to see if she has a bladder stone :( I am worried sick and shaking like mad. I am giving Eliza the snuggle safe so that she has something to snuggle up to why Connie is away. Can you please send vibes our way. I will keep you posted throughout the day. x

Poor Connie I hope its good news and she doesn't miss Eliza too much

Going to the vets is so stressful i think its worse than going to the dentist i get really nervous too.

Sending positive and calming vibes .........:laluot_29:

Sending mega vibes for Connie, keeping everything crossed that the day goes smoothly. Keep us posted. xx

aww,we're all thinking of you all. Pheobe, Ruby, Bethany, Maggie-May and Sonny all send healing wheeks and all their love. Sonny sends extra love and licks to one of his very special girlfriends. I'm thinking of you all with my fingers crossed xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks everyone. She is now at the vets and my stress levels are hitting the roof! Her didn't take her out of the carrier as he wants to keep her stress down to a minimum. He seems to no what he's talking about and took me through a book to show me what would happen (if she needs surgery). If she does, he is going to do it today so he can keep her asleep without having to wake her up. He is going to gas her as he says it is safer than injecting her. Eliza is snuggled up in their hutch with the snuggle safe. It is going to be a very stressful day :(

Oh you poor thing, the waiting is just awful isn't it - I find the best way is to throw myself into a major task to pass the time - you know, clear out the shed, or something!

Hope all goes well, everything crossed here, thinking of you

I hope everything goes well for Connie today, I'll be thinking of the 2 of you x

remember Eliza is also going to be very stressed and sad as Connie isn't there, so lather her with attention today and you'll both feel so much better. yeah, deffo give their cage a good scrub and clean out as it will be lovely for Eliza today, also clean it before Connie comes back so it'll be nice and fresh. Scrub their foodbowls and bottles. Clean all the outside too! xxxxx

I'm sure everything will be ok,I think that our little piggies are much more stronger than we think they are. My best wishes for full recovery and all my positive thinking go straight to your little Connie :x

vibes for Connie.

Hi Claire, I know what you are going through, try not to worry too much, i had butterflies all day when Pinkie went it for her cysts and stone. But then when you get the news that everything has gone well you can't wait to get them back home. Thinking of you and Connie, hope she is back with you soon. Sharon and Pinkie.:...

Claire i have everything crossed for little connie, i really hope its not a bladder stone x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>

keep us updated :)

Good luck, hope the xray is clear and you and Connie can avoid any surgery. x

Connie update

The vet has just phoned to say that the x ray is clear and there is no sign of stones or sludge :) She has high calcium in her body as this is what the crystals are so its still a mystery. I don't understand why she still has pinkish wee and sometimes squeaks and props her bum up when she does wee. I suppose i'll have more answers when I pick her up. He says that she is a little quiet but is eating so he is keeping her there until 4. I am so relieved that she doesn't have any stones. Thank you all for your vibes as they must have worked :) xx

Well that must be a relief, thanks for the update and hope she's soon home. If you've got any questions for the vet, write them down now as I do find that the mind is a blank once you get to the surgery!

I am so relieved for you. Stones wouldn't have been fun to deal with, so it's good that Connie doesn't have any. :)

Now that you know she is clear of stones, it is worth asking your vet about Septrin and Rimadyl. Sometimes Septrin is called TMS, Trimethoprin Sulpha or Bactrim. The anti-inflammatory - Rimadyl - should help with the squeaking.

I have lots of questions to ask him so I will write them down :) He is going to go through everything with me at 4. I am still concerned about the crystals as he said that these could eventually develop in to stones. I am just wondering if I should seriously cut back on calcium in their diet? I say their because I don't want Eliza ending up in the same condition. What foods should I avoid? Also, would I be wise to syringe Connie with some water as I have noticed that she doesn't drink as much as Eliza, if so, how much should I give her? Sorry for all the questions but I just want what's best for them both x

I think green veg has quite a bit of calcium in like kale, brocolli, etc. I'm glad that Connie does not have any stones.

I'm relieved for you (and Connie) that she doesn't have stones, and as you say the vet knows what he's talking about I'm sure he'll be able to advise and put your mind at ease on all the questions you'll have for him.
Give her a little kiss from all of us when you bring her home.

vibes for Connie

Hi Claire, sooooo glad it wasn't stones, i bet you can't wait to get her back. hope she feels better soon. Love from Pinkie to Connie. Let us know what the vet suggests with her diet.

Good news about no stones, you are being fab and doing all the right things......Caviesgalore (Sandra) has had 3 or 4 guineas with bladder problems and is very experienced, I am sure she would be happy to help and advise re foods. I do know that the dark green veg is a no go, such as kale, cabbage, spinach etc

Let us know how she is later x

Sending (((hugs))) Claire I've no experience of stones as yet. Hope things work out. x

Wonderful news that no stones were found:) Claire. I bet poor Connie is feeling a little groggy tonight, but I'm sure she will have bounced back to her usual self by tomorrow. Food wise I would try what I mentioned in my pm. Green leaf veg is generally pretty high in calcium particularly kale, greens, cabbage, broc florets and I tend to only give parsley as a rare treat - all favourite foods with my gang unfortunately.

As CCC4 has suggested I hope your vet gives you some Septrin and some form of pain relief - hopefully if it's an infection that should knock it on the head, although it may take some weeks.

Glad to hear that Connie hasn't any stones. I have had two piggies operated on for stones.

Out of interest what dried mix do you feed them on?

I had a squeaking, bum in the air, when weeing situation for quite sometime (well, not me! :)) my piggies) particularly with the sows - mine were fed on Gerty.

They aren't fed on this now and I must admit I haven't noticed any squeaking when they wee for a long time.

Thank you everyone for all of your kind words and advise. Me and Connie really appreciate it :) Connie was very quiet when I picked her up but started squeaking when I opened the back door as she new that Eliza was in the out house waiting for her. She is now back in the hutch snoozing on the snuggle safe with Eliza. I have shut them up for the night now so that Connie can get some rest. As well as cutting down on calcium, I'm also going to not feed citrus foods and see how she goes. She is staying on the baytril until Friday so that she can finish the course and if there is still no improvement, he is going to try her on something else. She doesn't seem to be squeaking as much when she has a wee now but I'll be keeping a close eye on her xx

Were they squeaking before or after the stones were remove? They have wagg guinea pig crunch x

Connie

Hi Claire, glad to here she is at home, amazing how they know when they are back isn't it. Pinkie was exactly the same, quiet all the way home i popped her bed in her cage and with a blink of an eye she was out and eating hay. Vet has got me some medication ready for Pinkie, i am going to collect it tomorrow, lets hpoe this clears up the wet bottom. i think it is now just a UTI infection with her. I bet you can relax now you have her back home. Keep us posted won't you. Take care. Sharon.x>>
