Hello fellow piggie owners..

It's been all come and go here with our 3 little ones - we've had nothing but bad luck with them recently. First it was the vet with Porche for an eye infection, then we had to go back with her to get a UTI treated... Now Pebbles and Pringles are showing signs of URI (not very active, regularly closing eyes, snorting slightly) so we've booked them in for 4:10pm tomorrow. Hopefully it'll clear with 1 course of baytril or septrin each and we'll only have to have a once round trip! Spent a fortune but it's worth every penny :)

Good lucks and vibes would be appreciated! My 2 girlies are in the photo below who will be going tomorrow.

Good luck beautiful girls. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thank you very much! Do you think those things are a sign of URI? Someone i've just spoken to said they arn't signs - They've been breathing heavier than normal, havn't been very active, are closing their eyes on occasion and i've heard snorty-like breathing!

Good luck at the Vets. If you have any doubt about an illness it is always best to take your guinea pigs to a vet as soon as possible.

Good luck with the vets, i hope their okay!

and your piggies are stunning by the way

Get well soon ladies... Healing vibes on there way.. xx

Thanks very much.. I'm worried the vet won't give them anything.. As they look healthy outside of their hutch as they're curious of surroundings.. :(

Hope all goes well at the vets, please keep us updated

Thank you, all.

Unfortunately our vet trip has been cancelled and re-scheduled for tomorrow as our vet wasn't in apparently.

Just want it over with now!

They've been having the same hay for years and have had no issues, I don't find it to be dusty. Their bedding is shredded paper which I spot clean twice daily!

The shed in which they live in is in need of a good clean, but it's not too bad so I doubt it's the surroundings which are causing it!

Aww bless them. They're gorgeous and it is horrible when you have poorly piggies.

Are they related by any chance? The reason I ask is because my Erika on occasion has the snuffles and makes a weird cough and breathing noises. But she has been seen by various vets and it's just something that happens. It isn't an illness as such, just something she was born with.

As Wiebke has said, an allergy to dust is also possible.

Thank you Claire,

Yes they're sisters from the same litter. They're 3 now and this is the first time they've ever needed to see a vet - they've always been so healthy so I doubt it's anything to do with something that they were born with.

My 3rd piggie, Porche however, the vet thinks she's just picked up a whistly sound with her nose as despite that she's having no discharge or any other issues, but with Pebbles and Pringles you can tell that there is something more as they're squinting and closing their eyes, breathing heavier etc. x

Yes, thank you! I also need to treat all 3 for mites too - I can see nothing visable but they've been scratching a lot recently. Going to do it after Pebbles and Pringles have had their antibiotics though obviously. x

Good luck with the mite treatment.

I know you say that you have been using the same brand of hay for years, I too use the same hay but I have noticed that some batches can be dustier than others therefore causing the odd sneeze.

Just an idea x

We've been today - The vet told us that unless the bedding is really dusty it's unlikely to have been the cause.

He said their airways sound slightly tight and they could be congested - They're both on 0.5ml septrin twice daily for 10 days so hopefully it should sort the problem!
