i took my piggie out for lap time and he as vibrating what does vibrating mean?

Ive looked into this and apparently it can mean either irritation or that your piggie likes what you are doing. Other body language determines which it is. Perhaps the more experienced owners can tell us more as my Vinnie did this the first few times I held him. He doesn't any longer so I'm assuming he was showing trepidation and anxiety !

Hi!

Guinea pigs which are very afraid can shiver. In that case, please put them back and make friends with them slowly first.

If your 'vibrating' is a sharp, short "rr", then it is displeasure, whether that is a sudden unexpected noise or you touching it in a way it doesn't like.

If the vibrating is a softer on and on off rumble in combination with a very relaxed body language, then it is has the same meaning as cat purring (which it sounds very similar to).

The two rumbles sound very similar. We do not have a sound guide because sounds that are very different in guinea pig language (whose hearing range differs from ours) always need to be interpreted in context with body languange and situational context - and that is not even taking scent and pheromones into context, which play a much bigger role in piggy life than in our comparatively weak human noses and ears, but stronger eyes especially over longer distances.
You may find this audio guide here helpful as it is at least one that is generally correct in the way they interpret the sounds, which unfortunately many guides aren't: Guinea Pig Sounds
