Lovely rescue lady that looked after Theo when he was so very very poorly has suspitions, as do I that Theo's teeth are causing him bother. With even a slight overgrowth his teeth roots become very inflammed and hurt. I'm worried he has dental issues too, on top of the lypoma and gut infection.
Can you please watch until about 60seconds to see if you think he's strugglying? He doesnt usually nod or screw his eyes up or take so long to eat such a tiny piece, nor search and search for a tiny tiny piece.

Furryfriends is the best to advise you. But to me he just looks like he is foraging for the yummy bits in the mix. Ive got plenty of piggies who do the head bobbing thing, i think its to move the food around in their mouth but i may also be wrong about this. Best way to know for sure is to get a vet to look at his molars. I didnt think blinking means pain? Sorry not a lot of help here.

x.

Well not actual blinking he he. More the half shutting type thing. Yeah he does forage but he was only picking up the tiny ickle bits and doesnt usually nod. Its maybe just in my head. Its just when he picks up carrot he spits it out he's sticking to soft foods and totally off his pellets the muesli is purely for temptation

I have no experience of dental piggies, for which I am eternally grateful!

What I would say however, is that you know what his "normal" behaviours are. It's often subtle changes in behaviour that can alert you to problems, and as Theo slave, you're the best person to notice these!

Don't query your instincts :) If you feel that there may be something troubling him, it might be worth getting him checked out.

Well you see the vet checked his teeth and said they were fine. But as he's had these inflammed roots in the past I'm very wary if he's been off his food. Hes been off his food and eating less for about two weeks now.
The inflammed root condition is controlled by limited access to pellets and lots of hay but Growth bearly visible to the naked eye can hurt him.

If hes sticking to soft foods and picking up small bits it does suggest dental pain. Is he on anything for it?

How is he with leafy veg such as parsley/coriander? Is there any yawning type movements when chewing or pawing at mouth? I'd definately get his teeth checked.

I would like to see a video of him eating something like salad leaves, grass etc. From what I've seen so far it would suggest he's just looking for his fav bits in the bowl and maybe getting the odd bit stuck a bit and shaking his head to move it in his mouth. Put together some of his fav veggies and video him again if you can.

Well he's on septrin, probiotic, fibreplex and hand feeding. He had diarhoea for a week and it was touch and go to get him stabilised.
He dandy with grass, parsley, cucumber and hay, but isn't eating properly yet, I think dental will be secondary or thirdly lol to everything else. Theres so much going on its hard to tell what caused what.
We have a fatty lypomo on the rump about the size of a 50p that causes him to hop about, Ive been told it causes no pain but I'm not convinced as pathology report said with chronic inflammation and he was hoping on three legs.
We also have a gut infection which meant 5 days of watery dark diarhoea
And no idea how the puzzle fits together malletheadmallethead

Shall do. Camera's completly flat so will charge overnight and post tomorrow. Really appreciate everyone's time for watching the video.
After alll he's been through its actually just really nice to see him at a food bowl;)

Hmmmmm. I do see what you're looking at, but he didn't do that 'lip pull' thing that I remember so well from my dental piggie. I would say if in doubt, get it checked out because it's obviously better to catch problems early!

My Shane is very similar to this, she is picky about her food and what veggies she eats.
She went really downhill the summer before last, and the vet wantedd to operate to see what was wrong - we all suspected teeth - I said no as ahe is old, so gave her wheetabix, parsley, cucumber etc and syringe fed her, after a week or so of this she perked up and never looked back. She went back to her pellets and appeared very happy.
The same happened this summer (2011) to a lesser extent, so I'm under the impression that its partly teeth and partly the heat...
With all his other problems - especially the gut problems - perhaps your lad is just being careful with himself?
xx

Just being fussy then?I wish he's start eating by himself.
Thanks for taking the time Debbie, one less thing to worry about.
