Hi guys,

my guinea pig was prescribed Virbac Sebomild P and we're not sure of the ingredients, @helen105281 has been trying to help me, so hence me posting this thread.

It says "essential oils" but doesn't say what they are exactly, Helen found out that it may contain tea tree which isn't supposed to be used on guinea pigs.

Jericho went to the vets because when we first got him I noticed dandruff, fur sticking up on his rump and a weird smell and his privates were a bit scabby, when he went to the vet she said it was because he had produced too much grease, gave us hibiscrub and metacam, nearly all of the grease was clear (it looks like all was to us but not according to the second vet), his fur was still standing up on his rump (not from grooming), so I booked him in with the PDSA this time, he went there yesterday, she said he still looked sore and red, said there was some grease left, never said what it was and prescribed the shampoo I'm asking about above. I don't want to use something on Jericho if it's going to make his skin problem worse.

I hope someone can help.. I have emailed the company and asked exactly what the essential oils are.

Thanks in advance

You may find opinions are divided on tea tree, but the person who advised me has years of experience and has seen the effects of using essential oils, in particular tea tree, on pigs she has seen through her clinic.
