I'm not sure which spot would be most appropriate for this thread. Sorry. XD

Anyway, everyone who knows me is aware of my pet family so when they visit, they usually ask to see one of my pets. It's really fun introducing my pets to new people. I love my pets and they're a big part of my life so I can't help sharing it.

People love my cat. But they have this aversion to rodent pets. When showing people around my apartment, I usually mention my guinea pigs. I feel like I can't avoid it because my cage is huge to accommodate my four piggies. Plus I'm quite proud of this homemade cage. And look, the piggies ran to the side of the cage to greet us! That's Bliss, Cuddles, Frolic and Tickles! Aren't they cute? I love them. You can pet them if you want.

And they either try to ignore the cage, or they genuinely look disgusted and say no.

It sort of hurts my feelings. And it's awkward. Sometimes it even happens just when I'm talking to people. They'll ask what's new and I'll mention the pigs and they won't even pretend to listen. I try to say it in as few words as possible and it's usually something that warrants an "isn't the silly" sort of response so I don't think I'm asking for much. I listen to people talk about sports and celebrities other things that don't interest me. I wish they could be polite and pretend to care as well. You know?

Anyway, I just wanted to vent. Anyone else experience anything similar?

I’d much rather cuddle a rodent than any other pets.
My piggies live in a room by our front door so either visitors five in to look and talk to the girls or they don’t notice them at all.
 
You are not bothering anyone, this is a good forum for letting off steam. Your friends adversion to your piggies is their loss. I must admit none of my visitors are very interested in my piggies either.
 
I have luckily changed some opinions on rodents in my family. My mom said she had no clue they would have so much personality and different personalities for each one! My brother (who has been scared of rodents since a gerbil bit through my moms fingernail when we were little) will actually hold and pet the piggies now. I do still hear the lovely phrase “it’s just a guinea pig” and things like that, but I just feel lucky to have them and know they are not “just a guinea pig” they are part of the family!
 
Unfortunately some people just have an aversion to rodents, as a number of rodents are pests: mice, rats, squirrels, chihuahuas. Wait, chihuahuas technically aren't rodents. Oh, and it's unfortunate for them, not for us. Guinea pigs are extremely cute, very personable and just lovely creatures to have around.
 
My friend is frightened of Guinea Pigs so when she comes around I have to make sure they are out of the way :soz:. She won't go within 20ft of a guinea pig. Mind you I can understand that as I won't go into a room if there is a spider in there! Just cos I love my piggies doesn't mean everybody does!

My mum is scared stiff of rodents (fortunately not the guinea pigs) but she would never say a nasty word against my gerbils and even feeds them when we’re away :)

I would never insult your pets Ruth! I'd love to cuddle all your piggies especially Ronnie!:love::love::love::love: but you already know that. Not sure about Dave's @David Pet Lover's "sporran" though!
 
I know you wouldn't, and I know anyone on here and my other non piggy friends wouldn't too! My best friend can't stand my roaches, but she never says anything about them.

P.s, Ronnie would love a cuddle from Auntie Jacky :D
 
I have an Aunty who lives in Middleton, Manchester that's not too far from you is it? I might just invite myself to stay .....
 
Jokes on my visitors because I love my pigs more than I like them. They can show the fellow residents respect of close the door quietly on their way out! XD choice is theirs. Granted, my circle of friends has rather greatly reduced, but so has the amount of drama so I'm classing it as a win.

So if I invite myself to stay with my Aunty I can visit both of you! How lovely! I told my OH I have Forum friends all over the country and wherever I go there's going to be someone somewhere I can see now I have 2 within less 40 minutes of my Aunty's house!

My problem is when the little ones are too interested! Sunshine hates it when we have visitors so I just cover up her cage and leave the wall side open. So she can get ventilation in the cage no piggy likes a stuffy cage!
