Pixel is fighting an infection. She's lost weight, been on baytril and metacam for a month had x-rays which has shown a bigger than normal kidney( she no longer has this). She went for a check-up yesterday and the metacam has stopped and the baytril is to be continued for another week. I'm having difficultly in maintaining her weight. Her teeth are fine. She is having plenty of forage and hard feed as well as veggies and fruit. She is also having critical care. I want to increase her vit c intake and before when I've had a poorly pig I've given an additional 50mg. Can this amount be increased at all or is that about the limit.? Many thanks x

You can increase the amount on a short term basis; it is difficult to balance it out exactly with what is in the food. Vitamin C is water soluble, so any excess will be simply excreted; it is only long term overdosing that can do damage.

I hope that it will help. Kidney trouble is usually quite painful, so it is not conducive to putting on weight again. :(
