my friend sent a bag of this vitakraft guinea pig food as a pressie for my boys. I am currently swapping burgess black current and oregano , to the mint variety( wasn't happy about the molasses in it ' which I wasn't aware of until I read it here). Not sure about how good it is, any members here had any dealings with it, or knows if it is good for piggies. They only have a very small amount of nuggets any way . I sprinkled a small amount on top of there hay, they did seem to like it. Any help would be appriciated x

I only have experience of the Vitakraft Emotion prebiotic, that's not it is it?

I will go look it up.

The Emotion is great and what Piggyfan feeds, it is my second choice pellet.

The details do seem vague, but from the ingredients I would say it's not the best thing to feed them but ok as an occasional treat maybe. Is it a museli though or a pellet?

More muesli type than a pellet to be honest ,might not chance it only want the best but the bunny one is rather expensive. And I do have a tight budget soo x

The Vitakraft Emotion is cheaper than the Bunny and JR Farms grainless is even cheaper.

Can you tag me in that post hun or link it as my boys have the black current and oregano as spare, incase my vitakraft emotion is not delivered in time :) Ive not heard about any problems with the black current pellets :(

Thank you :)
Your piggies are truly beautiful!

The best piggy nuggets are grainless, low I calcium and do not contain molasses. I am afraid burgess is total junk and very high in calcium. These are the best pellets for guinea pigs,

My piggies did not like them so I feed these which are the second best piggy pellets,

Awww thank you Shirley, my boys are on the same pellets as your piggies :) how are you finding them? My boys coats seem really healthy, glossy etc since I switched to these plus i think my fudges tummy has been better since too. I would love to have them on bunny but I'm planning to move house early in 2015 and Ive had big vet bills this year so they are on the next best pellets and top quality hay :)

Are all the Burgess ones high in calcium? I knew about the molasses in the blackcurrant ones but didn't realise the mint ones were also problematic. I just thought they weren't as good because they have grain in. I'm also feeding the Vitacraft emotion ones now and like them.

I used to feed my piggies the Vitakraft Regular or Senior pellets years ago. They were quite large and round. Never had a problem with them. But they are very difficult to get hold of now. I am not sure if they still make them. My pigs are on Harrington's now.

Burgess calcium levels are comparable with most other main brand pellets @PiggySmitten
Thanks Helen. I will hve to go and have a look now at the calcium levels in the Vitacraft - presumably they are lower than average then. It doesn't matter too much to me though as I am feeding Vitacraft anyway and I'm fortunate that the biggest issue we've faced so far is fungal. I guess it will be wise though to go for low calcium to avoid future issues.
