Bought a hutch from PAH today. Got a guinea pig starter kit. Aren't I the lucky one. There were some Vitamin C drops in it which I'm not going to use, don't think they need it as they're fed sensibly. Wondered if it might be an idea to keep them for emergencies, eg sick guineas. Have had to hand feed a few poorly ones in the past. Is this a good idea or not?

Which did you choose ? Bet the pigs are all excited in their new house. ;D

It's the Sage House one - 2 tier. We're (or rather hubby!) is going to do some alterations tomorrow. Going to make the ramp less steep by putting another level in and put a side on the ramp so they can't fall off. Then I need to make a pen to go next to it, they're coming inside for the Winter from the shed. Really looking forward to being able to see them more and get them out.

Hi,
It's probably worth keeping it in case you take in a pooly guinea pig, or one from an iffy background :)

I'm sure they will be happy in there. Yes I made a little stairwell for mine and two little bannisters. Not too good at DIY but I was on a mission !

;D

Thanks. Just wanted to check as I've never used them before.

The hutch is finished now. It looks great (hubby did it). I wouldn't have known where to start! I'm sure yours looks great, but as long as does it's job it doesn't matter anyway, sure the guineas don't mind.

Beatrice - sorry, tried to post a picture but it was too big and wouldn't allow it, then I tried compressing it but it still wouldn't work. Not quite sure what else to do to make it smaller in size?

;D Sorry I'm not sat all good at piccies and things either. The house sounds fab. :) xx

I was under the impression that you HAD to add the vitamin C drops to all dry foods as GP's dont have enough of it am i doing the wrong thing

They need fresh vegetables/fruit daily to get their vitamin C but the dry food provides a lot of goodness too that they need. I don't think you have to add the drops to the food providing they're getting plenty of fresh food but can't see that it does any harm. I'm a bit cynical in thinking that it may just be the petshops getting more money!

Mine have adishful of fresh veg everyday plus the drystuff and grass

The Vit C drops came in the GP welcome pack from PAH and was told to use them to help them

I think it can just be used as a supplement then, like we would, but you don't have to use them. I'm just going to hang on to the ones I got in case I get any poorly guineas.
