I just bought a guinea pig today and at the pet store they were stressing the fact that guinea pigs NEED vitamin C all the time. Online i read that vitamin drops [which the pet shop recommended] in water is bad because it contains other vitamins that can harm guinea pigs. So now i'm confused. What is the best source of vitamin C for guinea pigs?
thanks,
Jackie

If your guinea is over 6 months and in good health, a balanced died and good quality dried food is all they need for vit c :)

RE water drops, steer clear ;)

Guineas get their vit C from their diet as PP says. Fresh veg twice a day and good quality pellets :)

The drops which go in the water aren't needed, nor recommended if they have a good diet. Fresh veg needs to be fed daily (look at the shopping list in this section), plus a good quality pellet with vitamin C :) They also need an unlimited supply of hay.

I don't use drops either, peppers (especially green and red) are full of vit c. Careful with the red ones though they contain a higher amount of sugar. :)

I give 1.8 green pepper per pig every day, cherry toms have a good supply of vit c but too many can cause mouth sores. :)

Just curious, what do you mean by 1.8, Louise? Do you mean 1/8 of the pepper?

lol okies :) Was just making sure. Mine have about 1/4 of a pepper daily between both of them so I guess it's about the same. :)

Yep thats what I do I watch them and make sure they get at least a piece each. The girls always go for the peppers first. :)

Mine kinda like peppers but they waste a bit so i didnt give them any more of it :) I give them other things they love like romaine lettuce etc and i stay clear of the vit c drops too they are no good as when i used to give them it they never drank much :-\ now i know better O0
