Hi folks, I have a question for you please ;-)

My 5 year old boar has been on a nugget diet (Science Selective) only for a while now (apart from cucumber and the odd bit of parsley) since getting bloat a few months ago. He doesn't seem to tolerate any other veg, it just sets of the bloat again so I've just stopped trying to introduce anything else. I also make him a bit of mash of the nuggets (soaked in lukewarm water) and a bit of recovery powder which he loves. I'm just wondering if he's getting enough nutrients out of his diet now such as vitamin C etc. He has timothy hay also. Would appreciate your opinion if his current diet now covers everything. He is happy and seems healthy.

Tx!

Hi, We have a similar issue with our piggie Megan.

She had terrible poo's, wet and sloppy for a month or so. Before this she had been able to eat veg fine. We stopped all veg and reintroduced it one at a time at the moment she has a tiny bit of veg for tea none at breakfast the only food she can eat without giving her wet poo's are:
Parsley
Spinach
green beans
tiny amount of cabbage.

She gets her Vit C intake from her Burgess pellets which we have to soak in cold water for around 4 minutes for her... She struggles to chew also bless her.... Suzy gave us the tip on cold water as warm water may de-nature the Vit C in the pellets.

We are slowly trying other food but it is trial and error, if you are concerned on the vit C front you could always syringe 1 quarter of an Oxbow Vit C tablet crushed up in 2ml of water..

Hope that helps

Thanks Billy. Oh poor Megan :-( I am glad you've found a diet that works for her. So difficult to do!

I am soaking the pellets in luke warm water so that it's not icy cold but maybe I'll just go for cold water then.

Thank you for the vit c tip. Is that daily?

Have a read of the packet, but I'm sure there is a huge amount of added Vit C in the Science selective, and i think i worked out that they need only around 12g (a tiny handful) of the nuggets to reach their daily vitamin C requirments.

x.
