I now have 2 guinea pigs ill with a chest infection, both are on septrin. The vet also advised topping up their vit c levels. They have Pro c in their water as well as a varity of veg and fruit and plenty of different forages. I've looked online and had a look at the recommendations as to what to give but was more interested in personal experiences. Both girls weigh about 1400g. Thanks

Peppers are probably the best food to get natural Vitamin C. I've just got topped up at Lidl who have a 3 for a £1 offer on till Sunday. The packets I got had 2 red & 1 green but my girls love them all. The 3 girls get 1/4 of a pepper between them at breakfast time & also at tea time. There's never any left.

Thanks, They have pepper at least every other day. I honestly think they have a great diet rich in vit c. It was just an idea from the vet because Panda keeps getting recurrent uri's. He suggested a vit c supplement to boost her immune system but gave no further details.

Hi there :) My Jerry has had a tough time with a suspected UTI and antibiotic intolerance so my vet also suggested increasing his vitamin c intake. I put two scoops of pro- c probiotic in his water bottle (this also has added vitamin c) and I give him some pepper every day (red pepper is the highest in vitamin c). The vet also prescribed ACE-High which is a multi-vitamin http://www.vetark.co.uk/pages/ACE-High.aspx
It is quite a high dose though and was specifically prescribed for Jerry. I would definitely speak to your vet to check if it would be suitable for your piggy before you try it as it's not just for vitamin c.

It is in powder form and he has one pinch daily. It has a very strong smell though, so I have to be careful what I sprinkle it over as he won't touch his veggies if I sprinkle it over them. I've found that a bowl of fresh grass proves too tempting to resist though, so I've been cutting him some grass each day, washing it, and sprinkling a pinch of the powder over it. Hope that helps :)
