Which foods are good for vitamin C that are safe to feed a guinea?
I've never fed mine anything but grass and cucumber just because i'm not sure if it'll give him an upset tummy or if its safe.
I was told red peppers are good, but are there different kinds/ anything I should stay away from?

I really don't know a lot about different veggies to feed my guinea.
Thank you in advance:nod:

You may find this information food thread here helpful. It lists all veg, fresh herbs and fruit that guinea pigs can eat (and also those that are not safe to eat), with a vitamin C grading. The thread is also listing how much to feed of hay, veg and pellets for a balanced diet.

Ideally, you feed one high vitamin C veg or herb every day in a mix of other veg, like a slice of pepper of any colour, a floret or chunk of broccoli (any part) or a sprig of fresh coriander/cilantro, parsley, dill, mint or basil. Please vary, as most veg and herbs should only be served 2-3 times a week; I feed peppers, cucumber and celery daily and the rest on rotation. Fruit (including tomato) should only be given twice a week.

When introducing new veg, only do one new variety at a time in order to not upset the tummy. Brace yourself that they may not like it and serve it again and again...

Thank you this was so helpful :D

Mine get a couple of postage stamp size pieces of pepper (red or green) each a day. Also lots of fresh grass. At the moment I'm in the process of cutting back on their kale & spinach (both high in calcium) & replacing these with fresh grass for breakfast & tea with their other veggies

How is this for introducing celery leaves? Ill also try.some bell peppers, how do I prepare those? Do I cut out all the middle and slice the pepper or do they eat the middle?1399140638378.webp

Well done!

For bell peppers, there are different schools of thought. those that cut out the middle and those that feed them with the middle. I have started to feed mine with the middle, too, after seeing that other people's piggies haven't come to any harm.

thank you so much, I'll try without the middle first ^^

Just a word of caution about feeding the internal membranes of peppers to piggies - especially those prone to bloat.
I know what a few errant pepper or chillli seeds/membrane do to my own digestive system so won;t chance it with my lot - especially the ones with sensitive tums! So I cut off all the internal whitish membrane and throughly wash to remove all seeds. The membrane (septum) is the main part of the plant producing capsaicin - which has signficant neurological effects and is also responsible for the "heat" or "burning" of a good chilli!
