Since losing Tilly, Hettie is eating lots of hay still but not much in the way of fresh veg or fruit.

How can I be sure she is still getting her Vit C requirements? should I be giving her a supplement and, if so, which is the best one I should buy and how much would she need?

Thank you.

Toast isn't able to have much veg just now so I got her the Pro - C Probiotic from Pets at Home just to make sure she's getting enough and she loves it. It's about a fiver. I don't put it in the water bottle like it says though because I can't control how much she'd take so I mix it together and syringe her the some and she loves it. you can sprinkle it on food too x

Great thank you. I would prefer syringing just to make sure she gets some.

She was doing really well on Wednesday and Thursday still eating well and enjoying the new toys I bought her. But yesterday and today she hasn't been out of her bed apart from when I physically got her out, and so isn't coming to eat any veg.

She's maybe pining for Tilly. It's good she still eats hay, does she take any veg if you give her it when she's in her hidey?

Yes, that is what I have been doing.

She relied totally on Tilly and is a very timid piggie herself. I feel so sorry for her and my anxiety is through the roof!

Id have your little one checked over by a vet in case she has an underlying issue. Sometimes pickyness with food can happen before they go off it. Weighing her daily at the moment wouldn't be a good idea x

She's not being picky as such she is eating when we give it her in her hidey she is just a very timid girl and relied on Tilly to be the brave one.

We've just fed her pepper, celery and cucumber (in her hidey) and she has eaten it all.
That's really good  do you think you'll get her another friend once you're ready? if she's been used to Tilly being in charge it might just take her to while to come into herself x

I already enquired on Wednesday, I'm not ready for another piggy but Hettie needs someone.

I want to rescue but it all takes so long and Hettie needs a friend now. I even phoned around the local Pet at Home (which I hate) but they only had boys.

There is a petshop nearby that has baby girls but not sure if Hettie would get along with a baby?

It can be a bit of a gamble. rescue dating would be the best way to get a match but I know how long it can take and if Hettie is pining badly maybe it would be best to do it sooner rather than later - you know her best.

The fact that Hettie isn't a dominant piggy might be an advantage with introducing a new piggy, as hopefully she'd be more relaxed about accepting a new friend but it just depends...

I'm sure there's members on here who's piggies have been badly pining and they've had to go out and get a piggy right away. just be very careful and patient with the bonding. if the worst happened and they didn't get along do you have room for 2 separate piggies?

At the moment I don't think she is badly pining, when I get her out she is still alert and interested. I could accomodate the 2 side by side, not a problem, but I would prefer for them to live and interact together. I also don't really agree with petshops selling animals and much prefer to rescue.

Thank you for the chat and information. I will hold fire and see how she goes for now.

I'm not too keen on pet shops myself but I wouldn't worry if it was for the sake of your girl. that's good she's still alert and eating now. keep us posted
