Hmm, my piggies get given Wagg Guinea Pig Crunch mixed in with their food every day. No problem so far.

However, when I first got them, they wouldn't eat the food, only pick out the green bits. The vet said to mix it with fresh veg so I have done, and they eat normally now. But they still pick out the geen bits, that is the only bit they will eat. Is this normal, and if not what can I do to help them?

My boys also do that! They normally have Wilko's own food but because Wagg was on offer, I thought I'd get them that...big mistake!

However, they do also have P@H nuggets and they gobble them up like there's no tomorrow. I'm not really sure why I give them both kinds as I'm sure they're better off with just the nuggets to avoid selective feeding! Maybe try your piggies on a nugget type food rather than a mix?

Good idea! Where could I get nuggets from though? I live in the North West of England, and I've seen some nuggets at Pets at Home but it's quite expensive..

P.S. Your piggies are cute >.<

My boys (I've got four!) have a standard size bowl of the mix food and then a small bowl alongside with the nuggets in. A bag of P@H nuggets lasts them quite a while as they only really have one bowlful a day.

I've only ever used the P@H ones but I'm sure there are other brands that might be cheaper.:)

There is what i call Cereal lol in wilkinsons that is in pellets and apparently its all the coloured bits blended into one "Booring" my pig picks out the green bits too but its healthy for them to have a choice, and plus i know he has fun digging in his bowl to find the green little gems.

Wagg is good stuff, our piggies eat the lot, they used to pick but if you ease off on the veggies while they are getting used to the wagg you will find they will tuck right in. Pigs will eat anything they are given but if given fresh food they will always go for the green stuff in dried more, and leave the rest. Time and patience is the key.. Wagg is well balanced and full of all the right stuff.

Wagg is excellent value at £2.59 for a good sized bag. You will find this with all sorts of food, if they are hungry pigs will eat anything. If you look on the bag of wagg there is an email address for any advice you may need as the company is well established in animal feed and will be able to tell you how to get over this problem, or have a look at http://www.waggfoods.co.uk/animals-small-fact_sheets.aspx

idk if anyone else has seen this, but when i got cupcake the staff at p@h suggested i try their guinea pig nuggets
instead of the mixed food it's pellets which are meant to contain the same amount of everything they need
i tried it and my pigs ate all of it, there was never any left over
i stopped buying it as i couldn't afford it but i may go back to it; it actually seems like a money-saver if they don't leave any of it!

Companies will always suggest buying their own brands as they have more margin (make more money) in them. I would never trust staff at P@H anymore as most of them have no clue

well yeah of course they try to make you buy their stuff, i just thought it was good as like i said there's no bits for them to leave out so you save money cos you use all of it up! i wouldn't say they duped me into buying it, they just said cupcake had been fed on it so would i like to take some until she gets used to my food, so my other pigs ended up trying it too.

If you look at the wagg site I linked they are willing to give feeding advice and the fact sheet tells you how much the piggies should have

i did mean leaving stuff out as in, they don't eat certain bits of the mixed food, rather than me giving them more than they can finish
but thanks =]

Ours love Wagg as Peter said, I've tried them on allkinds and they don't select feed. Nuggets just werent really getting ate. I don't know if they thought they were boring! It's cost effective for us too. :)

Ours love Wagg as well. We get a 15kg bag for £9-95 from our local pet store as they have just got it in previous to that i ordered direct from Wagg and had it delivered for i think around £13.99.

My girls eat everything apart from the yellow bits and my boys eat everything apart from the green bits! I'm not too concerned about his though as they all have two good portions of fruit and veg per day.

My bunny Ella went crazy for it once when i dropped some on the floor, now when i am feeding the pigs she begs for it I have to tell her no Ella your a bunny and this is piggy food. She circles my feet and goes crazy as soon as she smells itrolleyes

I have used gerty guinea pig and wagg guinea pig crunch but all 16 of my guineas dont seem to like either that much they just pick at it and there is always some left over and then hear them squealing because they are hungry lol so I feed them on Excel Guinea Pig food which is quite a hefty price to be fair for 2kg nearly £5 but its the only food they will eat all of and they like it a lot from their little wheeks and snuffles lmao so i try to keep them on Excel but if I am low on the cash I do use either wagg or gerty :)

Funny thing is Super Excel has nothing any different in it than Wagg lol

Hehe, my boys will only eat the green bits in Wagg. They take them out and stash them somewhere in the hutch, then Rocket sits in the food bowl and kicks out all the other food, unless it's fruit or veg..

If your feeding a mix like wagg crunch do not refill the bowl untill its empty. I feed mine excell nuggets to my lot but as a treat I add a little wagg crunch in for them. I never refill the bowls till its empty I hate waste of any kind.
