The little baby in the avatar picture on my left is the daughter of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post-op boar (not one of mine, I hasten to add; the boar in question had been cleared by a vet). Just to make the point that there is a crucial difference between mostly safe and totally safe! It can really happen as late as that. My Tegan is not the only case I have since heard off.

In order to be 100% safe, please follow the practice of all good UK rescues and wait the full 6 weeks. Despite hundreds of boars being neutered in the intervening years, I have yet to hear of an accident - and it would make the rounds like wildfire, believe me!

I made my neutered boars wait 8 weeks! I was making sure that I didn't have another surprise litter! (When I got their Mum she was already preggers with them). Some websites I looked at before I joined this wonderful forum said 4 weeks and the vet said 6 so I went with 8 just to be on the safe side!

I kept my boar separate from the sows for six weeks after his op. They were in a c and c cage next to each other and got to know each other through the grids.

Harley’s getting fed up bless him his doing a lot of cage bar biteing atm! 2 more days! Is 2 days early still to Risky to put him in with the ladies? x 6 weeks post op this Friday

I know it feels like forever doesn’t it? I had one boar neutered then waited 2 weeks later to have second boy done in case either was unwell after surgery. Although Id put the dates and names on my calendar I still questioned myself re the correct times and NEARLY ended up a week early with the first boy! I then waited 6 weeks and a day to be sure!
Good luck with your boy!

Good job I checked ! Harley’s not 6 weeks post op till the 3rd! This seems like ages! Glad I checked don’t want to end up with pregnant sows! x

Time seems to stand still, but the rewards are worth it ! Just weigh till you see his little face when you interduce to his forever sows :wub:

Hehe I remember the wait with Pete. He had one of the pets at home wooden cottages that hold together with dowelling. I came down one morning and he had been sat on top of it wiggling his bum at the ladies so much he had rumblestrutted it apart and was sat in the middle of the collapse looking very smug with himself :))

Ha Ha that is very funny! The other morning when I put Dennis in the run first after I had put the hides in, Dennis was jumping from one to the other very indecisive as to which one to stay in. He did his sexy bum wiggle in each one as they must have smelt of girly! It was very funny to watch!
