Hello someone is selling an omlet walk in run at a reasonable price so I’m going to see it tomorrow hopefully. Would be great to have a run we could go into to spend time with the piggies. I would get a shade cover and put it in shadiest part of garden. We have artificial grass so would need to put something on top for them any ideas ? My worry is if they can’t go out when it’s hot or when it’s wet there will be lots of days they won’t use it and will take up quite a bit of garden. Is there a way of making it so they can spend more time out there ? Maybe putting a small hutch inside it ? They will come in at night.

In terms of being outside when its hot, then there is no way round that - unfortunately that is a time they can’t go out.
During summer days, run time is often limited to early morning and late evening once it has cooled down.
Mine live in my shed year round but in the height of summer often have to move into the house during the day, lawn time for an hour or so in the evening and then back into the shed overnight.

Yes you can put a hutch inside it (a 5ft hutch for girls, 6ft for boys).
The run part would most likely only be useful when it is dry though.
They can only have access to the run if it is raining if the run is protected from all sides - pull down covers for example, something that could be removed so heat doesn’t get trapped
When it comes to hutches, do keep in mind that hutches trap heat, even out of direct sun, heated breezes in what would not otherwise be considered too hot can raise the temperature in a hutch beyond the outside air temperature so make sure they are still monitored to ensure they are safe.

Artificial grass gets hotter than natural grass so again monitoring to ensure it is still safe for them to be on.
Yes it would need to be covered by a blanket for example.
