Hi everyone! As a relatively new owner of guinea pigs I'm learning more and more about these fascinating little guys every day. Since I have a group of four sows, I'm very curious about a lot of their interactions and I'm having fun deciphering their interactions, but I'd appreciate a better guide. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for reading material about the social hierarchy of domestic guinea pigs, especially when it is a group that is more than just two pigs. I've found a lot of stuff on pairs, as well as different gendered groups but very little on a group that more closely resembles mine.

Dominance behaviours and dynamics are essentially the same in any sow group, irrespective of the presence of a neutered 'husboar' or not. The sows have their own hierarchy apart from the boar, who will fit into the overall group wherever in the hierarchy he is able to punch.
Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics

You can usually figure out a sow group best by looking which companion sows in a stronger season are chasing and mounting. It is normally the sow just below her in the rankings; lacking that, they will go for the one just above. ;)
