As some of you know I lost one of my guinea pigs in December and am left with one solo pig however I have now really started to want to get answers one and have been trying desperately not to get one and wait till I can get one or two from a rescue in spring but I have noticed that Popcorn doesn't really do much all day rather than stay in her sleeping area and to be honest I am getting very "broody" (if that's the right word) and my parents are telling me I shouldn't get one. Anyway just wanted to talk about it and see if anyone has any advice to prevent me wanting another pig right now.

I would get one or two from a rescue now if you have the space/finances for doing so. Why did you want to wait until Spring? I am sure your remaining guinea pig will be glad to have company again. It is so important for them.

I think it's entirely natural to want another piggy. And your solo piggy will be lonely at the moment. So I think she would be happier with a piggy companion.

The only reason is because she lives outside and the rescue (out of three we have contacted) can't rehome till the weather warms up

I can understand your parents not wanting you to get another. They probably don't have the same affinity to guinea pigs that you have.
Getting a guinea pig is a big commitment in time and money. They may be worried you may "go off" looking after any more guinea pigs. They wouldn't be able to care for them like you.
My Amos went very subdued when he was by left himself. I never thought he would react like that as he was really a bossy guinea pig who failed bonding sessions and lived by himself but with guinea pigs nearby until they sadly passed away. But he got his personality back when I adopted a couple of boars who housed in a C and C run in the same room. He obviously needs company nearby like most guinea pigs do.
Is Popcorn eating normally or is she losing weight?
If she is not showing any signs of grieving you may be alright to leave it until the weather improves a bit before deciding whether or not to get any more guinea pigs. We are now into February. Just remember to give your Popcorn extra attention so she has some relief from the monotony of being by herself. She may be surprised how she enjoys the extra contact.
Let us know what you decide. Take care Val

Could you have a temporary indoor home? They would get plenty of interaction and you could keep an eye on their progress. Perhaps long shot but wouldn't it be lovely.

Thanks, my dad says I can get some in the spring but it seems so far away. I also give Popcorn more cuddles when I can but I'm doing my GCSE exams in a few months and trying to get coursework done and revision plus homework means my time is pretty stretched already but she does seem to prefer cuddles more now that she is alone.
