OP - It maybe that the batch may have had the wrong balance of ingredients, in which case you need to complain to the company and send them the bottle to test, take note of the serial number (batch number).. they may recall it

Good point!

It won't always be the same every time, but they should be much more careful if that is the cause of your piggies' deaths.

Have you talked to your vet about an autopsy and / or blood tests?

May be useful to back up your claim.

Tests on your remaining guinea pigs (obviously blood tests) as well as on those who are recently deceased may be the best way to shop how widespread the damage is. Your vet may also be able to treat your remaining piggies.

So sorry for your loss, and I understand that it must be awful to even think about putting your pets through these tests on top of all they have suffered.

I have worked in the chemical industry on and off for 20 years, can I suggest that you contact the manufacturers and request a COSHH certificate. They are required to supply this if requested as it is a health and safety thing. This will indicate all issues that may arise from the product or its ingredients.

What is COSHH?

COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health.

Control of substances hazardous to health :-) I also work in the chemical industry :a19:

IPA (isopropanol , isopropyl alcohol) are three names for the same thing and I am sure there will be some more obscure names for it too. I wouldnt be happy with using such chemicals near animals and I dont like using them myself. To us IPA at work I have to wear gloves, specs, lab coat and handle in a fume cupboard !

I doubt it would have killed the animals though, as toxic doses of stuff like this on rats and mice on which they are tested is usually really high. I am aware of species differences but rodents are pretty similar, or more similar than human to a rat but the results for the rat are scaled up to what they think would kill a human.

I use wilkinsons cage cleaner but I am going to look at the ingredients and see if its actually any different to other household cleaners and actually see what it contains. I hate it when they just say ionic and non ionic surfactants thats not enough detail for me!

i would write to the manufacturers.... it could be a terrible coincidence , but thanks for letting us knowx>>
