I just got my guinea pigs out to clean them, and i put them on there new fresh towel on the bed whilst i cleaned them out, i just checked on them to find my poppy has been running about on the towel and caught her nail, and it has pulled of! it was bleeding really badly :( but Ive got some of the special styptic powder so that help it a lot!

Thought i would write a little post just warning others

:)

ouch, hope she is ok now. Good job you had one of those stick things in.

Thanks for the advice, I just put a towel in for my 2, I do have vetbed as I get it for my doggie so think I'll swap it for that.

Ouch poor little guinea piglet x>>

i think I'm going to just use puppy training pads instead of a towel, there cheaper anyway as you can buy them from poundland :)

My piggies don't get just a towel ever for that reason :) I'm glad you got the bleeding to stop and look at it this way, that's one less nail to clip over the next few weeks, just keep a good eye on it as with any wound there is chance of infection and where it's on her little foot it will be getting into pee and poo quite often.

They get fleece on top of the towel, its just i put the towel down on my bed encase they wee or anything whilst i clean then out... Her foot will be well looked after :)

my poor baby poppy who hurt her foot (white guinea pig) shes only 6 months old :)

ouchies :{

Gosh our piggie Duke lived on towels for his last couple of years (chronic abscess boy :0 ) but never had this problem......... i think you have to look for close weaved towels never any with big loops on the weave

Sending healing wheeeeeeeeeeeks for little Poppy from us all XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I don't ever use towels tbh but recently bought some pretty pink little microfibre towels to fold and use as drip mats under the piggies bottles. One of my girls caught her nail, luckily I was standing by the pen. They have now been relegated to dusters :{

Have you got a Home Bargains near you? Their puppy pads work out much cheaper ( and they're bigger ) than the Poundland ones: £1.99 for 14 pads.
