I adopted Connie in November last year (she was about 18 weeks old at the time) but because we have no room in the house, her hutch had to go in the outhouse outside. 2 days later, guilt kicked in so I brought Eliza so Connie would have company considering she originally had a friend who unfortunately died and I didn't like the idea of her being out there alone. A friend of mine however has suggested that I should have left Connie on her own for a while to settle in before introducing her to another guinea pig. (Connie is quite skitty when trying to catch her). She has also commented that the only reason I brought Eliza wasn't because I wanted another, but because I just wanted company for Connie. I suppose looking back, this was true for part the reason but I absolutely love Eliza and do not regret having her at all. Before we took Connie in, I wasn't really fussed about having guinea pigs but when a home was needed for Connie, I felt that I could provide her with a loving home. Was I cruel or did I do the wrong thing in anyway?

I don't think you did the wrong thing at all.
You did what was best for the piggy, how can that be the wrong thing.
As long as you are committed to looking after both of them then I think you did the wright thing. O0

No i think you did the right thing, no doubt about it! Just think if you were put in a strange place on your own you'd be scared. If you had another person there to talk to you'd feel a bit better and it would help you feel more comfortable and you'd settle in quicker! Definately did the right thing O0 x

Piggies are sociable beings & I am sure you did the right thing,I started off with 2 pigs-the female was pregnant&had 3 babies, which I couldn't bear to part with,1 of the babies was a male so had to move to his own place & I felt so sad for him so I got him neutered & put 2 baby sisters in with him, this was about 7 months ago & they all get on brilliantly & it's great to see them all around the food bowls & hear the chorus of shreaks everytime we step outside.
As long as you're happy to look after them & spend time and £ on them you'll be fine : ;)

naaaaaaaaaaaah course you didn't do the wrong thing! Pigs need company & love having another around.

okay you got connie and loved her and only got eliza for company for connie. but if you look at it now i bet you love them both ? so you did the right thing by connie and now you love them both and are willing to do anything for them O0 so how can this be so wrong? i think you should ignore your friend and listen to your heart O0 as piggies are pack animals and like company and as you are a piggy person and love piggies how can that be wrong? sending hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I think you did the right thing!

I kept my girl on her own for 2 months after her friend died and she was not herself - they are better with company! :)
