Was it my fault?

two days ago i took my guinea pig to the vets because he had stopped eating. The vet trimmed his teeth and i thought it would get better. But he was still not eating yesterday, so i took him to the vets again and she checked him over and gave me some food to feed him through a syringe. I took him home, gave him some food and noticed he a had a big lump of poo by his anus. I now know this is called an impacted anus. I helped him get rid of a huge lump of it and some more little ones and put him back in his cage. I thought he was going to be fine but i checked on him five minutes later and he had passed away. I cannot stop crying and feel so guilty because i feel like its my fault that he died. Did i do enough? Was it my fault?
 
Oh Hun. I am so sorry that you have lost your boy but please do not blame yourself. Guinea pigs can become ill very quickly and it sounds like you did everything you could.

A pig can appear fine after a dental but loose the fight a few days later due to the anaesthetic.

It's sounds to me like 'one of those things'. You honestly did all you could.xxxxxx
 
Thank you for the kind words. I just hope i can get over his death and stop crying. He was a wonderful guinea pig. x
 
I know how you feel, I rushed flash to the vets on the easter sunday, fought to get him to eat, gave him all the meds he should have, and really looked after him but the following sunday he died and I felt I should have done more.

Sometimes no matter what you do they just give up on you. You did absolutely the right thing, not only taking to the vets once, but again the following day when you were not happy, there is nothing more you could have done.

I still get upset about how things went and miss him everyday, even his silly habit of scratching me when I picked him up.

It does get better and you never forget them, and as someone wise said to me, you will remember how happy they were and all the good days with them, celebrating the time you had with them.

his name was theodore, i am not sure how to put a picture up but if someone could tell me i will gladly put one up x
