Previously I have attempted to wash my boys as a way of cooling them off in the summer and an attempt to help clean them. They are fine but I have heard of greace glands and wondered if I should be doing Something else. Both of my boys aren't that keen on getting in water but will occasionally if it is really hot. is there anything that will get them to like the water more. The water has been clean and not very high only about up to their ankles so I don't know what is wrong.

Piggies don’t really need washing unless there is a lot of build up on their grease gland, or their hair around their stomach and backside is soiled. They clean themselves so should be ok. If they’re long haired you can help them stay clean by giving them a trim. It helps keep them cool during hot weather as well.

The grease gland is where their tail would be. Some have an overactive one while others are ok and don’t need maintenance.

To cool them you can wrap frozen water bottles in something (a tea towel, towel or sock) and put it in their cage. You could have a fan near their cage (though I think not blowing directly into the cage). Or put them in an area of the house where it’s not too hot and there’s some breeze passing through to cool the area down.
