Ive tried washing the fleece i use for the piggies and it doesnt seem to wash. I have out it in a duvet cover after getting off the worse of the hay. They have same out the same with hay on and still smelling of pig. any ideas?

What temperature are you washing it in? I used to do a 30 wash but now put it on at 40 and seems better.

I wash ours in a duvet cover at 40 degrees and it doesn't smell of pig - it does come out with little bits of hay on it so i then hoover it to get those stubborn bits off!

i don have a problem with mine at all. I make sure all hay is removed before hand and just put in the machine - no duvet or pillowcase for either profleece or normal fleece.

I wash at 40 degrees - do NOT use conditioner though as will make the material not absorbant. just use tablets

I've just tried washing my gangs fleece and vetbed in a duvet cover for the first time. It worked a treat and came out smelling of washing powder not pigs!

I made sure I took everything outside first and gave it a thorough shake and brush with a stiff dustpan brush to get all the bits off, then popped them in the quilt cover. It does mean I can't get everything done in one go, as obviously the quilt cover takes up some room, but so far my machine is much cleaner:). Having just brought my gang indoors from the shed they are all furiously losing their winter coats so I have lots of additional loose fur at the moment - didn't want to risk bunging up the machine as hubby would kill me and I can't afford a new one at the moment!

When I washed mine in pillow cases/duvet covers, I used a rubber bristled hand brush beforehand which took the hay off a treat. Now though, I just bung in four blankets on their own (two from the cages and the other two from pool so they aren't that dirty) after shaking them into the recycle bin! They then get put into the tumble dryer (not very environmentally friendly I know...) which takes off any other loose stuff.

At the moment, I'm using a concentrated liquid from Lidl - comes in a small bottle for a pound and something and leaves them smelling lovely.:)

just washed vet bed for first time, and although there were still a few hay bits (just shook them off), it's clean and smells fresh.... Huang it out last night, dry this morning... Thanks TGPF for making me discorver this!:))x>>

Yep you need to make sure they're not bunched up tightly in the duvet cover or else the water won't get right in all the dirty bits. We just use old pillowcases and it works fine. I have to give it a good shake after it's come out as well.
