Do the ppl who use fleece bedding use their washing machine to wash the fleece in that you put your own clothes in?
If so, after the wash do you use any sort of detergent to disinfect/clean the machine?

We use the same washing machine to wash our clothes and Piggy Fleeces but not at the same time.. :lol!: We put our Fleeces into a wash bag first though before putting into the machine.

We use something similar to this.. Petwear Wash-Bag LARGE

Lisa & Ali..

I wash mine in the same machine but seperate.Use a horsewear bag so the filter doesn't get blocked

I use the horsewear bags too, only put pet bedding in it (Don't use conditioner) then I put the machine on a quick rinse after just to make sure there are no stray hairs that will cling to our clothes :D If you are that fussed about hygiene then use a quick rinse cycle after washing their stuff with a little drop of white vinegar in the machine :)

We use the same washing machine but we put the fleece in a horse wash bag and use the washing machine when our own clothes aren't in it :)

no l just rinse it out, then open the machine filter and get out any bits

Nope, I put it in a duvet cover to wash. Now and then I do an empty 95 degree wash but I did that regardless of the pigs.

I washed cloth nappies in it until my sons were each 2-2.5 though so after the best part of 5 years of human poo going through the machine I'm pretty laid back about the perils of the pigs!

Phew. I'm not new to washing fleece in my machine been using fleece for over a year. I firstly wanted to look after my new washing machine as wasn't bothered with my old one and secondly I only ask as I had a comment or two from a friend about hygiene etc, so just got me thinking. Thanks for the replies.

I use a duet cover to wash my vet beds. Its on such a high wash that the machine is essentially cleaning itself when rinsing/spinning etc. i dont get any hairs/hay in the machine due to using the duvet cover. Just got a new machine too n so far so good!

I just put them in an old duvet cover, wash on hot wash with non bio and instead of fabric conditioner I use white vinegar in the rinse cycle. Never had an issue with hairs/hay in the drum as it all gets caught in the duvet cover.

I used some of that Dettol washing machine cleaner today funnily enough...and have since run 2 loads of empty washing cycles as I'm worried about whatever chemicals are in there ending up on our clothes/their fleeces! I'll stick to vinegar next time.

I'm with the majority I think - fleeces go in a duvet cover and occasionally I'll run a quick rinse afterwards to catch any stray hairs that may be lurking.
