Sorry thus might be a dumb question(s) but I am after some info regarding bathing my piggies! I have 2 boys who I would love to bath and get looking really adorable (they do anyway but a little extra)
Could I use baby shampoo or do they need a special guinea pig shampoo? And I am worried about them fighting afterwards as I have read boys can fight because of the loss off smell. They get on so well, have been together all their life and I would hate to mess that up if that makes sense? Does anyone have any info or tips on the whole bathing stuff please? Would be ever so great full, thank you x

Some people bath their piggies... I have never been one of them unless it is needed for medical reasons. Your boys are long haired so may need regular bum baffs with a sponge and it is always worth keeping long haired piggy bottoms bum fur cut short to avoid matts..

Gorgeous Guineas make fantastic pig safe shampoo http://shop.gorgeousguineas.com/shampoos-1-c.asp We get our shampoo on there as do lots of piggy owners

Hope that helps

Thank you for your reply. I keep their bum area cut short to avoid messy bits. I got a mild shampoo from pets at home but will defently look at your website for a specially for piggies one! Thanks again much appreciated

i wouldn't bath them unless they really need it, or for medical reasons. use a flannel, some warm water and a tiny bit of shampoo to wash any dirty areas (round the bum for example)

it's very cold aswell so make sure they're able to dry and be warm enough if you do bath them.

i used to have to trim and 'bum bath' maisie's skirt. i used some shampoo from gorgeous guineas :)

I am the same, I only bath as needed. Having onle one long haired piggy she gets bum baths more often, and 2 semi coated one's who get their bums wiped with an animal safe wipe every day. I find my short coated girls are absolutely fine! Other than that, if they haven't needed a bath all year round, they may get one in summer when it's warm.

I would only bath mine on summer, because its safer and harder for them to catch a cold.
I also recommend the Gorgeous Guineas shampoos, I haven't tried them with Teddy -I have one shampoo though, just in case- but I read/watched really good reviews about them.

As has been said above I would only ever bath a piggy on medical grounds or advice from a vet. I have read some real horror strories about piggies catching a chill from bathing and then getting pneumonia. And I agree with you that there may be some fighting as you will have washed away a long-standing scent. I have heard of some cases of bonded boars having to be split after bathing.

Have to agree with others; as a rule, I wouldn't bathe the pigs unless they get super-dirty or there's a medical reason. One of my boys is mostly white and he tends to run underneath his newspapers; when the headlines start showing up on his back, then I give him a bath. (very seldom it gets that bad, though). I use a children's fragrance-free shampoo and that works fine. If you do bathe them, make sure they're kept warm afterwards, don't let them get a chill.

My piggies are indoors and I made sure it was toasty for after their baths lol. They still get on just fine and don't seem to have had any problems following. Thank you for your replies much appreciated
